Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 16 Recap

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 17 Review Holo Might Leave Lawrence

This episode starts with Amati boldly challenging Lawrence and declaring his intent to pay off Holo’s debt to Lawrence. Amati even proposes to marry Holo, who has been pretending to be a distressed and confined woman living with Lawrence, a deception she created to seduce Amati.

Lawrence caught off guard, accepts the challenge but insists that Amati must produce the money by the following evening. Amati agrees, leaving Lawrence scrambling for a solution while Holo seems to enjoy the unfolding drama. The twist is unexpected; who would have thought Amati would fall for Holo’s act so completely in such a short time? She has convincingly played the role of a pitiful nun, and now there’s even a betting pool on who will win her favour.

Lawrence must now uncover how Amati plans to gather such a large sum so quickly. He doesn’t want Holo to end up with someone else, especially now that he has a lead on her birthplace. Amidst this tension, the city’s famed festival begins, offering a brief respite. Our protagonists enjoy the festivities, dancing and partaking in local traditions. However, the situation takes a complicated turn when a letter arrives with crucial information about Holo’s hometown.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 17 Review and Recap

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 17 Review Holo Might Leave Lawrence

Lawrence is in quite a trouble because of how things turned out after his fight with Holo. He knows that she will no longer listen to any of his words, and she might also pursue Amati because he can stay with her. To cool his head off and come up with a strategy, Lawrence goes to his merchant friend and asks about the market the next day. Both know that the price of pyrite is going to increase, and Amati will definitely have a lot of profit.

But Lawrence still hopes to create a situation that can somehow decrease the value of pyrite, and he will be able to stop Amati from buying Holo. He seems pretty desperate to keep Holo to himself. This is because he knows that Holo, after learning that she will not have any place to return to, has become desperate to have a companion. Amati, who is very much in love with her, will be with her without any qualms, at least till he finds out about her real identity. Hence, there is no other way for Lawrence to keep Holo other than hoping to crash the market somehow and make a huge loss for Amati.

He even comes up with a pretty complex but effective plan to do the entire mission. To support that, he goes to Amati and makes a wager, which, from above, looks as if all the loss will be incurred by Lawrence. However, we know that he is not someone who will get into a wager that is going to be entirely disadvantageous after what he faced while dealing with armour. Still, he must buy a lot of pyrite within a very small amount of time, that too from illegal sources. Hopefully, he will be able to achieve what he plans for.

Verdict

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 17 Review Holo Might Leave Lawrence

Lawrence is jealous and at a loss after he is presented with the marriage document from Amati. He knows he is very close to losing his companion forever and, thus, is trying his best to do anything possible to counter that. But I think he could have just said that he loves Holo, and things would have resolved on their own.
