Waiting for Rowoon’s The Matchmakers Kdrama? 1st Episode Release Date, Cast, Characters and More Revealed

It’s just been two weeks that Rowoon’s last TV show Destined With You aired on JTBC, but luckily for his fans the wait for his next release won’t be that long for The Matchmakers Kdrama (혼례대첩) is hitting our small screens in a matter of few days. Having developed an affinity for period dramas as it seems at this point, the former SF9 member’s upcoming series is going to be yet another ‘sageuk’ aka historical drama. He’s previously appeared in The King’s Affection with Park Eun-bin and recently wrapped up his fantasy show with Jo Bo-ah that gained a lot of traction due to their bubbling chemistry.

The Matchmakers’ Rowoon will next be seen alongside Cho Yi-hyun in the weekly releasing romantic comedy series directed by Hwang Seung-gi and Kim Soo-jin. Written by Ha Soo-jin, the South Korean series will commence airing soon and will mark Yi-hyun’s first lead role in a period drama.

The Matchmakers Plot

Shim Jung-woo is the youngest person to have passed the state examination and is picked as the ideal fit to marry the princess. however, fate has other plans for him as she dies untimely during their wedding ceremony and then Jung-woo isn’t allowed to remarry anyone else as per the Joseon period custom. On the other side, we have Jung Soon-deok, also a widow and the second daughter-in-law of the second State Councillor.

All this while she’s been leading a secret life all thanks to her pseudonym Yeo Ju-daek that allows her to work as a matchmaker and sell women’s items. As the best matchmaker in the capital city, she joins forces with Shim Jung-woo to marry off older men and women representing Joseon.

With Rowoon as Shim Jung-woo, a Confucian scholar, and Cho Yi-hyun as Jung Soon-deok, the best matchmaker and bangmul seller in Hanyang, the rom-com series will also feature Park Ji-young as Park So-hyeon, Jo Han-chul as the King, Lee Hae-young as Jo Yeong-bae, Jin Hee-kyung as the Queen, Choi Hee-jin as Mrs. Jo, Oh Ye-joo as Jo Ye-jin and others. Rowoon’s old SF9 bandmate Hwiyoung will also reportedly make a special appearance in the series.

The Matchmakers Where to Watch

The new Korean series will be airing on the South Korean cable TV network KBS2 every Monday and Tuesday at 9:45 PM KST. It will eventually also stream on Viki and Viu .

The Matchmakers Episode 1 Release Date and Time

The first episode of the TV show will air on October 30, 2023, at 9:45 PM KST on the South Korean broadcasting channel KBS2. It will also be released on the online streaming platform Viki and Viu for international audiences.

The Matchmakers drama starts airing on Monday on KBS2.
