What do they find when they enter the library?

Then they all enter the library, and they find numerous books supposed to be filled with knowledge. However, Subaru loudly asks why the trial to enter the library was designed in such a manner that no one but him would be able to enter. Later, when Emilia goes to read a book, the letters get jumbled, and nothing makes sense. This happens with everyone. Bako only manages to read the titles and nothing else. However, things completely change when Subaru picks up a book and tries to read it. He literally gets stuck in its story.

What happens when Subaru enters the book?

The story pretty much relayed the origin story of the witch of pride. Apparently, her father wanted her to understand good versus evil. He was an executioner, and he was the one who used to decide who got to live and who did not. One day, she broke a vase and readily confessed to her father, fearing repercussion. Her father then told her that she was right to confess to her crime and apologise. This gave her a twisted sense of morality.

She started to believe that the gravity of a crime could only be found within the heart of the one who committed it. When she asked someone if they had done something bad or not, they readily crumbled and died, even her father.

Who was the witch of pride?

Re:ZERO Season 4 Episode 5 Review

Subaru met with the witch of pride at the graveyard. After coming out of the book, he lets Emilia know how she represents innocent cruelty. He theorised that the book most likely gave him a taste of someone’s life. But it is not just Subaru that goes through a book like this. Julius also goes through a book and survives by duelling with a character just at the nick of time.

What is this library about?

Beako further theorised that maybe all the books are named after dead people who died in the present and in the past.

What did we learn about Meili from here?

We get to know that Meili started to become an assassin after her mother got contracts for killing. Actually, she was dumped as a child, and Mabeasts took care of her. She also clearly stated that she doesn’t want to read books about her parents, even if she found them. On the other hand, she presents a very good question about the books. She wonders if these books just appear out of nowhere after someone dies.

What more did we get to know about the library?

The library extends to many other floors, and to cover each floor, one must take the exam. Towards the end, Subaru and his friends make it to the second floor, where they meet a new character who introduces himself as the Stick Swinger.

What worked and what did not work?

The story went into a new lane and had a lot more depth than other episodes. I love that we got to see the backstory of the witch of pride. I am also very excited for the new character, who seems like a formidable opponent. There was nothing in particular that I didn’t like about this episode.
