Who caused all of this?
In episode 7, we finally learn that Bernard, who was seemingly against the bad guys from the start, had an ulterior motive that he hadn’t told anyone beforehand. He knew that Nadia and the others would give them pushback, and so he used them to get the president killed and buy Manticore from the new president. Nadia and the others are disgusted, more so because his plan got Mason killed, and Bernard doesn’t seem to have any remorse about it.
Why kill the president?
Bernard got the president killed because he knew that he could buy the new president off, and for that, he needed to get Aronov out of the way.
The Abby twist
In episode 6, the most shocking twist was Abby suddenly ending Mason’s life after having an emotional conversation. Nadia is there as well, and she tries to stop her but is attacked as well. In the end, Mason dies, and Nadia is also critically injured. She later realises that Joana used the chip implanted in Abby to control her and make her do all of this. It wasn’t Abby who hurt Mason or Nadia.
Nadia’s realisation
When Nadia realises that Bernard knew of Abby’s chip and didn’t stop her from joining their team, she is disgusted and confused. When Bernard tells her that they need to give up some people for the greater good, Nadia realises that they have been used as pawns in a sick game.
What does Bernard do with the satellites?
However, thankfully, Bernard doesn’t want to use the satellites and eventually blows everything up, mentioning that no one needs to have so much power in their hands. He essentially destroys everything at the cost of his own life and those he loves, for the greater good.
What does the ending mean?
The Citadel Season 2 ending discusses how, although Nadia has walked away, she knows that Bernard needs to continue to do what he has been doing to keep everyone safe. That’s what he knows best, and now, he doesn’t have any option but to keep on doing so to keep his own family safe. The last episode leaves the world in a fragile state, but maybe with a little less surveillance. In the end, Nadia meets Aparna, maybe with the hope of taking care of some other threat.
