Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 11 Review- Duty

Oliver vs Joseph Albright Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 11

We have discussed this trend before, and since it continued in this episode, I need to bring it up again. The show does not know how to resolve most of the plot elements that it incorporates, leading to most mini-arcs just fizzling out right when they were getting interesting. While I am not going to spoil the exact result of this arc, the episode felt like it ended before it could even begin. Oliver and Joseph had a decent scuffle, but Michella going against her sister was a huge disappointment.

These were supposed to be Michella’s episodes. We were supposed to learn more about her true nature and how she became as strong and well-refined as she is. While we know the answers to both of these now, they were delivered in the most underwhelming way possible. She is among the most popular characters in the show, and if she can’t escape the crutches of bad endings, then it doesn’t look too good for the rest of the show. It wasn’t even that bad of a reveal; this is just how flat it felt after a battle this disappointing against her sister.

Michella vs Stacy Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 11

Joseph Albright got a lot of shine in Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 11, and for good reason. He is a different kind of character that we haven’t seen in the show before this. Wait, no, he isn’t. He is literally the exact same character Andrews was, just more evil to a cartoonish extent. He gets this big sob story of why he needs to do what he needs to do, but it is the way he goes about things that makes him as insane as he is. He is a character who needs some mental therapy to go over his issues, and while he gets access to that, we will all be subjected to his mental illness.

The show also has a problem with its characters being too soft. So many people get forgiven for committing atrocious acts of attempted murder/torture so easily you would think all they did was steal a sandwich. In this very episode, after a series of events where one character tries their damnedest to sic murderous human-sized bees at our main cast, it doesn’t even take five full minutes for Oliver to offer them a hand of friendship. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for redemption storylines, but they need to be a storyline first.

Overall, I was not a big fan of this episode. There were some good things here, as Oliver and Nanao both had some decent moments, and Michella got her time to shine in the face of death. More could be done with both of the plot points featured in this episode, and this episode just felt very half-baked. Oh well, most of what just happened is already in the past, as we have a new danger to face. Don’t worry; Oliver is probably just going to pinch them a little, and they’ll be friends once again as well.

Verdict

Reign of the Seven Spellblades Episode 11 was a rather disappointing episode that failed to do justice to the plot threads set up by the previous episode.
