Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, also known as Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto in original Japanese or just Zom 100, is an action, comedy, horror, and supernatural anime airing as a part of the Summer 2023 anime season. The anime is being produced by Studio BUG Films, who are working on a full-length anime for the first time. The show is being directed by Kazuki Kawagoe, a well-known director who has previously directed popular shows such as Komi Can’t Communicate and Beyblade. This episode is also known as Zom 100 Episode 7, and Zom 100 Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto Episode 7.

Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 7 Review- Truck Stop
This wasn’t a very fun episode to watch towards the beginning of it, as things here got more real and uncomfortable the more we went into the kind of people the main characters were dealing with and had dealt with all their lives. The writers for this show absolutely must have had to deal with the most despicable weasels for authority figures in their lives because they know how to write them so well your skin starts to crawl. These writers have been wronged before and have an insane amount of experience with people who make you feel like your life isn’t worth living.

We have already discussed this about Akira before, so let’s focus on Shizuka this time. We were taken on a journey with her here, one that didn’t last very long but said so much about the kind of character she is and how she came this far. The pain in her life and her dedication to not feeling that pain any more were represented beautifully as we, alongside her, faced her demons once again. She took a much different stance than Akira did.
Akira, of course, who had been traumatised to the brink of suicide when working under the same leader earlier, would spiral towards the same destructive tendencies that got him stuck in the place the first time. You could still sympathise with him because no one with a sound mind would think any less of him for acting this way. Especially not people familiar with the exact kind of abuse he was dealt with. It was going to take a lot of effort to make Akira feel like himself once again, and the writers earned every second of that.

The depictions of the cruelty Akira got from his boss, and the lack of humanity shown his way demonstrated the effect of a hivemind very well. Even normally well-natured and unsuspecting minds can be warped for long enough to damage innocent lives, which is why the show uses all the citizens of this makeshift arrangement Akira’s boss had into a bigger element of leadership at times of unrest and uncertainty like this one. Even if he came from adversity, Akira would find a way to overcome people like his boss, for he has nothing to lose but himself.
Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 7 was a lovely episode that wasn’t the funniest or most exciting outing that we have seen from the series, but it didn’t need to be any of these. Akira needed another run-in with his past to escape and be above everything truly, and Shizuka needed to stand out as a character, alongside building a deeper understanding with her two partners in this journey. This episode accomplished that and much more, as you bet we also got to see the Boss get his ass kicked. That wasn’t a spoiler but a necessity.
Verdict
Zom 100 Bucket List of the Dead Episode 7 was a visceral yet essential episode that saw us look at toxic workplace culture once again, alongside learning to deal with people who always have to have absolute power.
