Perfect Crown Episode 10 Review
Quick Recap
The episode begins with Hee-ju begging her father to protect Yian. Then she goes to the Palace and asks Yian for a divorce, shocking him. When he asks her why she would need that, she gets hurt by telling him he has nothing to offer her anymore and that she wants to protect her inheritance. This hurts him deeply, but he still begs her not to leave. However, she decides on the divorce so that she can take all the blame and shame and protect Yian.
Tensions rise when Yi-yoon abdicates, and Yian takes the Grand Prince throne. Yi-rang is furious about it. Simultaneously, Hee-ju publicly supports Yian.

As the episode comes to an end, we see Hee-ju and Yian privately reuniting and she confesses her love for him. They both share an emotional initimate night. The next morning, Yian explains to Hee-ju about his fear of becoming the King as he is haunted by his brother’s death and how the same problem might come for him. Hee-ju tells that she will stand beside him. Just when things start to simmer down, palace tensions rise as new conspiracies get revealed. A bomb explosion happens inside the council hall where Yian is supposedly inside. The episode ends.
Performances of the Cast
Great acting by the entire cast in this episode. To speak of Byeon Woo-seok as Yian, his heartbreak scene during Hee-ju’s asking for a divorce felt very raw and natural. He didn’t overreact, but he expressed the pain with perfect restraint and vulnerability. He maintained his controlled body language while also visibly breaking down.

Likewise, for IU, she nailed the character of Hee-ju. From Hee-ju trying to sacrifice everything for Yian, to her preparing herself to stand beside Yian, we can see how stellar a performance IU gave. Her public resilience is to be appreciated because she’s ready to fight the world to protect Yian. Such a boss lady behaviour.
Apart from the main leads, Jeong-woo and Yi-rang also play a pivotal role. Their villainous motives are the ones that keep the show hooked. So kudos to the actors for acting in a way that the viewers hate them.
Themes Explored

The most important theme explored in this episode is Sacrifice. Hee-ju decides on a divorce so that Yian can be saved from the public’s shame. She is ready to bear all the guilt so that Yian can proceed with his throne and other royal responsibilities. Likewise, Yian is also ready to lose his throne as he wishes to take responsibility for Hee-ju and live a normal life with her.
Another theme explored is trust. Yian trusts IU so much that he is ready to accept the throne despite his major fear of his late brother’s death. He already has a lot of trust issues, given that even those he believes are good are actually poisoning him. Likewise, IU also trusts Yian as she believes he is the only one who genuinely loves her.
Direction and Editing

The balance between romance and the episode’s tension is well done. The emotional scenes between Yian and Hee-ju are shown effectively with slow pacing, neat dialogue and beautiful expressions. The confession scene is so intimate, and we can see how intense the cast’s acting is. Just after their intense night together, the shift to political tension proves that the direction is coded well.
The council hall scene becomes the most heartwrenching one as Yian’s life is at stake. The episode closes with it, leaving the viewers to wait a whole week to know what’s next. Will Yian be alive? Mostly yes, but what caused the bomb explosion? Who is the real villain? Could it be someone beyond their imagination? Maybe.
The editing during the bomb sequence is particularly impactful. The sudden shift from political discussion to explosion is highly shocking, and it heightens the suspense.

Flaws
Too many plot developments might come off as overloaded. The divorce plot, the succession/abdication plot, political threats, backstories, Yi-rang and Jeong-woo’s motives, romantic reunion and bomb explosion, all seem to happen within one single episode. The way they were presented feels seamless, but these subplots are just too much to fit in one episode.
Final Thoughts
This particular episode is definitely the turning point of the series. Hee-ju and Yian are officially a couple as they both confessed their feelings. Yian’s life is something to be worried about as his enemies are constantly plotting against him. Hee-ju’s secret admirer is waiting for his chance to ruin her mental health so he can get inside her life. With everything going on, only the next episodes could show us how things will calm down and allow Yian and Hee-ju to live peacefully.
The episode succeeds because it keeps love at its core. Even amid betrayal and bomb threats, Yian and Hee-ju’s commitment to each other remains the emotional anchor.
