Who is Dan-shim?

Dan-shim is supposed to be a concubine from the Joseon era. She skillfully managed to rise through the ranks of the court, only to be ordered to drink poison later. Her husband, the king, who poisoned her, did not even meet her for one last time, and Dan-shim died after the King’s guards forcefully made her swallow poison.

Did she die?

No, Dan-shim did not die in the real sense, as, on the contrary, she wakes up in the modern world. In her new life, she wore the same attire, and the same scenario where she died played out before her; it was just that she was an actress, acting as a concubine. This obviously made Dan-shim very confused about what was happening. After messing up with the shoot, Dan-shim tried to stay calm and figure out her situation.

Who is Se-gye?

Se-gye is a hot-blooded 3rd-generation chaebol known as a ruthless business tycoon. He has a very bad reputation, and people think of him as someone who only fights. The public opinion about him is also very negative, contrary to his cousin, who portrays himself as a very nice and agreeable man.

How did Se-gye and Dan-shim meet?

After Dan-shim becomes completely overwhelmed with her new situation, she runs out and walks the streets without any direction. She fully starts to believe that she is in hell. That is when she comes in front of Se-gye’s car, who gets out and berates her. Here, one of the funniest scenes of this entire episode happens, and they get into a scuffle.

However, this was not at all their only meeting.

What happens later in the story?

Dan-shim understood that she got a second chance at life, and rather than being depressed about her death, she must move on. She’s a very intelligent person, and she decides to rise above everyone and to do that, she tries to seek Se-gye out again. She realises that he is like a king in the modern world, and she would need his help to re-establish herself.

How did she meet with Se-gye for the second time?

She goes to his office, and there she accidentally sits for an audition. Here, she meets Se-gye again, and their interaction starts off on the wrong foot for the second time. They fight and bicker, giving way to a great love-hate relationship angle.

What happens in the end?

Towards the end, we get to see that Dan-shim has acquired a strange power that can detect when someone is in danger. She successfully helped Se-gye out by saving his life. This also has something to do with Dan-shim’s transmigration.

What worked and what did not work?

I actually liked this episode very much, and I believe it has the potential to become one of the best rom-coms of the year. It started on a very strong note, and the comedy scenes actually make you laugh. The chemistry between Lim Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-jun is also off the charts. I have very high hopes for this one.
