Mera Vyah Kara Do: How much longer are we going to follow a trope where a woman’s life is defined by marriage?
Mera Vyah Kara Do is about Noor, who is set to get married after a horoscope prediction indicates that if she does not get married within a certain period of time, things will not work out for her in life. With her mother constantly bickering about marriage, Noor sets up a matrimonial account. However, unlike most people, Noor puts herself out there and, posts racy pictures to attract the attention of potential grooms on the app.
A girl next door is turned into a pretentious person looking to hook herself up. With attractive pictures circulating on the matrimonial site, Noor is approached by a lot of potential grooms, few even obsessing over her. This is how Ekram walks into her life and, takes her breath away. But, will Noor find her happiness in Ekram and marry him? Is Ekram ready for this marriage? And, most importantly, what of the other potential grooms growing obsessed with Noor with every passing moment?
Mera Vyah Kara Do follows a generic trope of a girl being forced to pick out her life partner which leads her to gain attention from several potential husbands. But, the one she is actually interested in is a distant salmon in the sea and with misunderstandings, complications, and heartbreak, the two are put on the threshold where they are either reunited due to the power of love, or part ways because things don’t look exactly like a bed of roses.

The actors try to lift our spirits with their comic timing and acting but it does not even come close to putting the nail on the wall right. The premise is all over the place and, except few catchy trademark lines exchanged amongst the characters, the script is mostly a half baked affair that lacks depth. Being a Punjabi movie, the songs in the film are its biggest highlights. However, the repetitive background score also gets nauseating at times because it does not aid the storytelling in any way.
Mera Vyah Kara Do: Final Verdict
But, with all the technical aspects aside, it is the lack of originality that makes Mera Vyah Kara Do a film that you feel like you could pass on. It falls under the preachy category of cinema that enforces all the blame, power, and decision-making choices on a girl, without her consent. It puts marriage on a pedestal and, it is only in the latter half of the film do we get a much more profound take on love.

But most importantly, it is a generic platter of the same old served with shinny songs that makes you want to skip through most of the film. The runtime time is tediously wrong and, the film could have very well been wrapped up quicker. For the ones who want to watch this Punjani film, Mera Vyah Kara Do is now streaming on Zee5.
