After the pasta team challenge, it was time for a Pressure Test on MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 17. The team pink – Therese, Dan and Justin lost the pasta challenge and have to give their best to be a part of the show. Contestant Brent, who missed the last Pressure Test due to quarantine, was also a part of the challenge.
The episode starts with MasterChef Australia judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo teasing the 4 contestants about the Masters Week guest. When they announce it is Kirsten Tibballs, everyone is happy but a bit tense. Kirsten is known for giving some tricky dessert challenges, and only the best cooks have been able to do justice to her dishes.
MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 17 was called ‘Pressure Test: Kirsten Tibballs’ Three Chocolate Desserts’. The three desserts, thankfully, were not ice cream. They were – exotique mousse cake, strawberry rebellion lollipops and ruby financier. The contestants have to recreate all three desserts and were given 3 hours 50 minutes to complete their cook.
Justin, Dan and Brent are a bit worried as desserts are not their strength. So they decide to stay calm and focus on the recipe to finish their cook. However, Therese, the dessert queen of MasterChef Australia Season 13, is quite excited. She also has the immunity pin that she can use anytime during the cook to save herself from the eliminations.
As the MasterChef clock keeps ticking time ahead, the tension in the kitchen increases. Each contestant struggle with something or the other – the design of the mousse cake, tempering the chocolates and coating the lollipops. But the contestant who struggled the most in MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 17 was Therese.
Dan, Justin and Brent worry about their cake print, but it turns out to be fine. They start coating their lollipop in a dense mixture with different colours. When Dan coats his lollipops, they are almost identical to Tibballs’. Sadly, they fall off the stick, and the contestants and judges cannot help but gasp loudly. But he doesn’t give up and keeps the tray in an upward direction to stop it from falling again.
Talking about Therese, she makes the most disastrous cook of the day. The sides of her cake didn’t have prints as she placed the paper on the wrong side. Her lollipop mixture is too thick and doesn’t look appealing. Contestants from the gantry and MasterChef judges advice her to use the immunity pin. But she is in no mood to do the same.
As we go towards the end of MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 17’s cooking, there were some finished and unfinished dishes. Brent and Justin completed all the steps and glazed their mousse cake. Dan and Therese didn’t glaze their cake. Dan also didn’t add the rhubarb coating to his ruby financier.
Now, it was tasting time in the MasterChef Australia kitchen. Therese starts feeling guilty for not using the pin. But she hopes that her flavours will save her from elimination. The judges love Brent and Justin’s desserts. Despite not completing his dishes, Dan’s recreation also leaves them in awe. Unfortunately, dessert queen Therese fails to do anything right in this cook. Thus, she gets elimination from MasterChef Season 13.
It was an emotional goodbye as Therese had given some amazing desserts in the house. While talking about her elimination, the contestant says that it was ‘so stupid’ of her not to use the immunity pin. Well, stupid is quite harsh, but I do agree with her. She should’ve used the immunity pin because leaving the show with it is a shame. Every contestant wants that pin badly, and not using it for its purpose is quite silly.
MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 17: What’s next?
Overall, yesterday’s episode was stressful AF. In the next episode of MasterChef Australia, the judges will be given a Mystery Box by Michelin-starred chef Masahiko Yomoda. The contestants who will give the best dishes will get a chance to be in the immunity challenge.
