Whatever Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 9 has got in store for us, it probably isn’t going to be an easy watch. However, you can bet your life on it being one of the best things you’ve ever watched. Let’s get right into the review!
Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 9 Overview
The best anime of 2017 and one of the greatest shows of this generation, Made in Abyss, makes a return to our screens with Made In Abyss Season 2, titled Made in Abyss Golden City of the Scorching Sun. The series is once again being helmed by veteran director Masayuki Kojima who also directed the previous seasons alongside other classic anime such as Monster and Black Bullet. The season is also referred to as Made in Abyss Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou in original Japanese.
The season is also being animated by Studio Kinema Citrus, which was behind the first season of the show alongside other shows like The Rising Of The Shield Hero. The series is based on a manga written by Akihito Tsukushi. This episode is also known as Made in Abyss Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou Episode 9 and Made in Abyss Golden Sun Episode 9. Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 9 Review- Walking The Tightrope
Anime has had a great decade so far, so much so that this season’s lineup was considered to be one of the weakest out of this entire new decade. The season before this one had a stacked lineup, and the one after it is one of the most hyped-up seasons we’ve ever had with the return of Bleach and the premiere of Chainsaw Man. Relatively speaking, the current season is the calm before the storm. However, all those shows have absolutely lucked out in not having to share airtime with Made in Abyss because, let’s be honest, what’s happening here blows anything they could ever do out of the water.

What this show has been doing has been nothing short of magical for these past months. From Irumyuui and Faputa’s backstory to the entire world inside the Golden City and the sixth layer, this expedition has been nothing short of wonderful. So much so that we aren’t even able to get to everything that’s happened in one episode before another comes along. This week sees Faputa come back to enact her revenge upon the entirety of the residents of Irumyuui’s new body (relatively speaking, it has been this way for 150 years and counting now).
The way the show has managed to reign in the uses of Reg’s matter-destroying beam when it used to be a staple of its storytelling is fantastic, as it was simply too powerful in the Abyss. Whenever it is now used becomes a major event, such as when it was used to take down Bondrewd for long enough that our trio could escape, when Reg used it to free Mitty of her suffering, and certainly in the latest episode, where it becomes the catalyst of all the chaos that is about to ensue in the once peaceful land.

The dialogue in this episode was tremendous, even with the veil of subtitles somewhat hindering the original meaning of the words. The way it was delivered during the end, and the content related to the suffering Irumyuui and Faputa suffered was heartwrenching. Riko also had a great moment in this episode when she confronted Wazukyan about what his intentions had been all along. Whether she goes along with that is a different story (please don’t, that’s a colossally dumb move), but the parallels drawn with her adventurous nature were a great touch.
And finally, like always, we get to talk about the production. It is blatantly unfair how this show can’t get a singular thing wrong. The animation in the rare fight sequence we had was tremendous, and Reg using his beam was given the Final Kamehameha treatment, which was great. There was a phenomenal new vocal song that played in the highly emotional final moments of this episode, which might just be the best new OST from this season. Kinema Citrus and Kevin Penkin put Shield hero behind them to bless the world again, and this writer couldn’t be happier.
Verdict
Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 9 was amazing and flawless. The dialogue and production were tremendous as the show managed to perfectly hit every emotional beat and made it an experience worth having multiple times.
