Lanterns Episode 8 Review on X: Lanterns finale released on October 5, 2026. The series spent its season building a mystery, developing John Stewart and Hal Jordan and keeping its superhero universe restrained, deliberately.

As the finale arrived, X (formerly Twitter) had two very different camps waiting: those who thought that the ending was the perfect culmination of what the show had been doing, and those who felt the series had spent eight episodes promising a bigger payoff than they delivered ultimately. X timeline is giving both.

The loudest criticism surrounding Lanterns Episode 8 is that the viewers expected more: more superhero story, Green Lantern imagery, Sinestro, and more of the thing called Lanterns

X user @Zedtron11 was particularly blunt about it, calling the show great overall but feeling that Episode 8 did not stick the landing, writing, “Honestly, it was a great show, but didn’t stick the landing in ep 8. We could’ve seen a suit or something more than what we got. I get why they left Sinestro there, but a lot of loose ends.”

Another user, @InvincibleIntel, carried a somewhat similar sentiment, rating the finale 7.5/10. They were satisfied with the episode, particularly enjoying John’s own oath and the idea of Hal remaining at his side, but still wanted to see John Stewart actually have the suit. The user wrote, “I liked how John made his own oath, and Hal will be at his side. But I wish they showed more Sinestro because I wanted to see more “Lanterns” with this show, as they also introduced Carol Ferris. Not a bad finale but Idk.” further adding that John Stewart is his favourite character.

“The Build-Up Was Better Than the Payoff”

For some viewers, the problem was not the individual pieces. It was the feeling that the show kept building towards something that never quite arrived. User @cameron101298 described the finale as “very underwhelming”, pointing out that while the series had excellent build-up, episodes 5 and 8 did not deliver the kind of satisfying landing they expected.

That is an interesting aspect because Lanterns seems to have made “restraint” a part of its identity. The show was not rushing to throw cosmic stories at viewers every five minutes. It was interested in the atmosphere, mystery, character dynamics and slow reveal, but when you spend the time holding something back, the audience naturally starts imagining what the eventual release will be.

Another X user @SaltNPeppaPapi_ actually praised the writing in the first 15-20 minutes of the finale, calling it incredible, but ultimately felt that the episode did not provide a big payoff as they wanted. Their verdict on the season was 7.5/10, but there is already one condition attached to a potential Season 2, “I’ll pass on a season 2 it it’s going to remain grounded.”

Fans Are Calling It a Masterpiece Too

@absolutedcguy called “Dirt and Stars” a satisfying ending that cemented Lanterns as the best live-action superhero show. For them, it was “Truly a remarkable season and piece of art and one of the most interesting mysteries put to screen.”

Thus, while one viewer is essentially asking “Where was the payoff?”, another is looking at the same content and calling it “remarkable”. The divide seems less about whether Lanterns worked and more about what viewers wanted Lanterns to be.

Hal Jordan’s Fate Is Another Major Talking Point

X user @ibnstudios’ review took a more thematic approach, arguing that Lanterns spent eight episodes showing evil people barely taking accountability while blame repeatedly landed on the two men trying to do the right thing.

Their criticism also touches on something larger: “The whole “morally grey” theme in film/TV is getting tiresome.”

There is a difference between complicated characters and a story where everyone is allowed to dodge the consequences, and X was clearly questioning it.

So, Did Lanterns Episode 8 Actually Stick the Landing?

X does not seem to have a clear single answer. For some viewers, it was a restrained, thoughtful finale that completed the season’s mystery and proved that superhero television does not need to constantly scream superhero to work out.

For others, the finale, Dirt and Stars, felt like reaching the top of a roller coaster to get a polite “thank you for riding” rather than the drop they spent eight episodes waiting for. User @WRLB2 gave the episode three stars, saying they had been waiting for something to top the previous episode’s cinematic experience but never quite got it. They wrote, “Last episode was a cinematic experience, and I was waiting for a moment to top it, but it never came”, adding that they appreciate the episode, but they had high expectations.

Lanterns Episode 8 has left X in a strange little emotional group project where nobody has agreed on the answer. Some called it underwhelming, some call it a masterpiece, some wanted Hal back, some wanted the show to stop teasing and finally go fully Green Lantern, but behind all of it, one encouraging thing for DC is that people clearly care enough about the characters and this world to have discussions about what the finale should have been.
