Lanterns Episode 7 Review on X: Lanterns Episode 7 apparently decided that the best way to prepare us before the goodbye was to dig into Hal Jordan’s emotional baggage, throw John Stewart into another stage of a cosmic situation, bring Sinestro back into the picture, and then leave everyone staring at the screen with a sense of excitement.
The penultimate episode has split the viewers on X (formerly Twitter) in one very interesting way: some are calling it a necessary, beautifully character-driven chapter before the finale, while the others think the episode drags in places and spends too much time setting things up when there is literally one episode left to wrap things up.
Lanterns Episode 7 Review on X: Hal Jordan Finally Gets To Be More Than “A Guy With Attitude”
The episode digs into Hal Jordan’s relationship with his father and things that shaped him. Suddenly, some of Hal’s behaviour throughout the season starts looking a little different. X user @HuskyHops writes, “The character depth it provided for Hal was unbelievable. He’s the way he is not because he doesn’t like John but because he can’t internalize his own trauma.”
Another user, @batgoat15, made a similar observation, arguing that the episode gives Hal’s familiar fearlessness a darker context: “Hal’s fearlessness stems from a suicidal disregard for his own life. It’s not a contradiction—it’s characterization.”
Some Stayed For Kyle Chandler’s Charm
Some viewers were hooked on Kyle Chandler in the episode.
User @invader_stimTTV gave the episode a 2.5/5, calling it bland while still admitting that Kyle Chandler’s charm carried it.
Another user, @Anime_barrel, similarly highlighted Chandler’s acting as “genuinely amazing”, writing, “Kyle Chandler’s acting is genuinely amazing. But on the other hand…”
For @Tokyo_2499, the episode was not just good, but it was apparently, “This is the best show DC has ever made. Only 10/10 episode imo, perfectly written, ZERO FLAWS. IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED LANTERNS YET, THIS SHIT IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE.”
John and Hal’s Relationship At Episode’s Heart
The Hal backstory is obviously the big emotional core, but the John-Hal dynamic keeps coming up across the reactions. User @BroiElijah praised the episode’s exploration of Hal’s emotional depth while highlighting, “Plus, John and hologram’s chemistry is electric with top-tier banter and captivating mastery. The showrunners deserve a massive pat on the back.”
Another @HuskyHops focused on Hal’s trauma, pointing toward the fact that his relationship was deeper and more complicated than a “dislike”. Another user @Gh0stAnd0r writes, “John and Halogram’s relationship was the obvious peak of the episode.”
The Episode Has Sinestro
User @InvincibleIntel gave The Jordan Boys’ Legacy an 8.5/10, praising Hal’s backstory and chemistry between John and Hal, further writing, “It was a very set up episode for the finale but nothing wrong with that. The ending got me wanting more and I can’t wait to see if the Yellow Ring comes into play!”

Not Everyone Seems Convinced
While one section of the internet was loving the episode and the character development, another section did not really.
User @ZeiSpaceKaiju called Episode 7 their least favourite episode, giving it a 5/10 and writing, “The whole episode before the box felt like a jarring drag and wasting time, they could’ve squeeze more out of this before the finale. The emotional notes are not quite there”.
The X Is Left Divided
Episode 7 might not have produced one universal reaction, but the conversation is concentrated on Hal Jordan as the emotional centre of the story.
For some viewers, episode 7 was one of the strongest chapters, but for some others the pacing made it feel like the show was spending pre-finale time on the material that should have been tightened.
The finale episode of Lanterns is scheduled for next week, and the penultimate episode had Sinestro, Yellow Ring, John, Hal and even a backstory. Whether the entire emotional load moves to the finale or if it gets lost is something that will be answered only in the coming week with the release of the episode.
