The Gilded Age Season 4 Review on X: The Gilded Age is back with its fourth season, and looking at the reactions on X (formerly Twitter), fans are more than ready to return to a world where the biggest battles can involve social standing, family disagreements and naturally, getting the best seat in the theatre.
Season 4 of the period drama seems to be holding the charm, familiar glamour and social settings, while the premiere episode also appears to have opened up conversations about changing relationships, emotional vulnerability and a few characters testing viewers’ patience. Going by the X reactions, Bertha Russell’s presence continues to be the major attraction, and fans on X are absolutely not ready to give up on her.
The Gilded Age Season 4 Review on X: Bertha Russell Is Back
If there is one thing The Gilded Age viewers want, it is Bertha Russell looking spectacular while getting what she wants. User @Tami_reads seems to be bringing the same energy, expressing their excitement while retaining its light and frivolous approach, writing, “All the reviews are saying that this season continues to be delightfully light and frivolous, which is exactly what I’ve always wanted: Bertha being beautiful and winning at everything! Julian Fellowes, thank you!” The agenda seems to be Bertha still winning at everything!
X user @DxLynnx appreciated the premiere, writing, “The Gilded Age Season 4 Episode 1!!! Too good! … I’m so happy my show is back.
Meanwhile, another user @4migaloiuse described the specific pleasure of returning to the series, writing, “gilded age is back today and i couldn’t be happier to see rich people fighting over the best seat in the theater”.
That looks like the show’s massive appeal, according to the reviews on X as the fans seem overjoyed with the return of beautiful costumes, extravagant productions and privileged people and their social dynamics.
Marian and Larry’s Relationship Has Viewers Talking
One of the more emotionally charged conversations surrounding the premiere involves Marian and Larry. Their storyline seems to have brewed reactions, particularly around a scene that viewers clearly found difficult to watch. User @amycrankheimer questioned the criticism directed at Marian, reminding the viewers of the circumstances women had to navigate during the period in which the series is set. The viewer also praised Louisa Jacobson and Harry Richardson for their performances, writing, “are people actually hating on marian for this? do y’all remember she’s an unmarried woman in that era? anyways, kudos to louisa and harry for this wonderfully acted scene; especially louisa at the beginning- the silent tears, the shaky hands”.
The review clearly portrays that it is easy to judge characters through the lens of modern-day expectations, but Marian’s circumstances are shaped by the society in the late 19th century where an unmarried woman’s choices could carry consequences.
Fans Are Also Talking About George
Another interesting aspect that has been on X is the conversation around George and the emotional dimension of his storyline. X user @eugiess shared the observation about the fourth season of the period drama, writing, “I feel a lot more intimacy in season 4 because there’s the element of taking care of george”
User @amycrankheimer, while sharing reactions to the new season’s premiere episode, admitted to already losing patience with George, adding that the trailer suggested that things might get more frustrating, writing, “ik it’s just been 1 ep but i’m fast losing patience with george & going by the trailer he’s only going to get worse”. The viewer also wanted more of Peggy and Williams, Mama Scott, an appearance from Aurora and the return of the Russell household staff, adding, “mama kirkland- obnoxious as ever”, to their list of complaints.
The Gilded Age Season 4: A promising Return, But Fans Want More
The reactions on X suggest that The Gilded Age Season 4 is giving viewers plenty of reasons to celebrate the return, and the fans have much to discuss. Of course, there are complaints; some viewers want more screen time for particular characters, while others are already ready to question some, and the absence of certain characters has not gone unnoticed.

Based on the premiere reactions, Season 4 appears to be retaining the lavish, massive and wonderfully entertaining appeal that made audiences fall for the series in the first place. However, whether it manages to satisfy every viewer’s character wishlist remains to be seen as the episodes are released. For now, Bertha Russell is back, the social dynamics are alive and well viewers are again emotionally invested in the problems of entitled people who have spectacular settings as their natural habitat.
The Gilded Age Season 4 released on November 1, dropping its first episode.
