Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

Here, Kafka continues his training under Hoshina, while the rest of the squad also focuses on sharpening their own skills for the looming battle. A major focus is on Kikoru, who is set to take up the Kaiju No. 4 suit, once wielded by the creature responsible for the deaths of many Defence Force soldiers, including her mother. Her training is overseen by Gen, who vows to push her until she can reach his level of strength.

Meanwhile, unsettling new creatures begin appearing across the city. Some take on humanlike forms, while others resemble monstrous figures, only to vanish before the Defence Force can respond. It soon becomes clear that Kaiju No. 9 is generating new entities at a far quicker rate than expected, meaning an invasion could strike at any moment.

Amid these rising tensions, Kafka finally sits down with Mina. Their conversation revisits both the challenges ahead and the bond they share from the past. Mina reassures him that he doesn’t need to shoulder the burden alone, as she and the others are ready to fight alongside him. In a touching moment, Kafka also reconnects with his comrades from the Third Division, realizing that they never resented him for being Kaiju No. 8.

Kaiju No 8 Season 2 Episode 10 Review

This is definitely one of the darkest and most brutal episodes as we see someone’s wedding get badly interrupted by a massive Kaiju attack. Then we see that nationwide, Kaiju monsters are swarming public locations and preying on people regardless. The scale of the attack is huge, and it is one of the most difficult operations of this anime yet.

For this mission, every division comes out to fight, and they all work together to contain the massive number of Kaijus. There is also a clear pattern in the attacks of these monsters where they only target important buildings to humanity, like power plants. This means that they are systematically attacking with a plan in mind, proving that this entire operation is being directed by Kaiju No 9.

But I was especially excited to see Kikoru getting the spotlight as she now wields the Kaiju No. 4 weapon, which is the fastest weapon that can also fly. She utilised this suit and weapon perfectly and used it to mercilessly kill the monsters right away. However, she is not the only one, as in this episode, Hoshina also gets fitted with the Number 10 weapon. His situation is a lot trickier because the suit that he is wearing is fully sentient and has its own mind.

Here, the situation becomes very dire because No. 10 does not want to listen to Hoshina and does everything according to his own plans.  However, he finally comes up with an idea where they can both work together, and that becomes one of the best sequences of this episode.

Today’s episode did not have much of Kafka because it focused mainly on the side characters. It becomes very clear that the team does not want to rely on Kafka too much because he is their trump card, whom they will use for the last battle against Kaiju No. 9. It is very possible that we will see Kafka in action in the next episode.
