When and Where to Watch Jewel on Netflix? Release Date, Trailer and More

Jewel is an upcoming South African film which is set to be released on Netflix in July. The film follows the story of a visiting photographer who falls in love with the native woman and the drama that ensues due to their differences. The film is tagged as a social issue drama and presumably it would be built around the issue of racism that people of colour had to endure.

It will have a runtime of about 1 hour and 20 minutes, while also following the queer theme as the motivation of the plot. Recently, we have been getting more content from Africa like Collision or Glamour Girls etc. However, the mentioned films were not able to enthral the audience as much but looking at Jewel’s trailer we can expect more from this emotional film.

Jewel Cast

The cast of the film includes Connie Chiume, Michelle Botes, Nqobile Nunu K.H., Senzo Radebe, Robert Whitehead, Desmond Dube, Lillian Dube, Sandile Mahlangu, Cindy Mahlangu and Chris Djuma.

Jewel Plot/Synopsis

The official Netflix synopsis of the film reads – While visiting a massacre memorial, a photographer finds herself drawn to a local woman. But their romance stirs up painful memories of a shared past. In the trailer of the film, we are introduced to two characters, a white female photographer and a native woman of South Africa.

They soon find themselves attracted to each other and the photographer tries to pursue her but coming from the orthodox African society, she finds it weird but still follows her heart. But their love story isn’t a garden of roses, set in the patriarchal society which is still recovering from the tragedies of the past due to racism. What will happen to their relationship? Will they overcome their differences or succumb to the shackles of society.

  1. Hi there, A for effort. However, “umthandazeli” that heals using water does not eat or indulge in anything that lives in the water. The over use of the buzzing horn in the background… less water action.

  2. I feel that Sharpeville was ‘hijacked’ and totally unacknowledged. Not a soul from kasi lami was used and only a handful from kasi were extras
