With the slow but steady reveals about various plots connecting the ex-hero’s past to the present, we have come a long way. I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 9 Overview

I'm Quitting Heroing Episode 9

I’m Quitting Heroing, or Yuusha Yamemasu in Japanese, is an action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy focusing on a post-war world between humans and demons. Earth’s greatest hero has decided to “quit heroing” and surprisingly wants to join the demon army. It is based on the light novel “I’m Quitting Heroing” (Kadokawa Books) written by Quantum and the original character design done by Hana Amano.

The anime adaptation is developed by Studio EMT Squared, an outfit that has produced many other anime such as The High School Life of a Fudanshi, Rainy Cocoa, and The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar. The show is being produced with Yuu Nobuta (Saihate no Paladin, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) serving as chief director, Hisashi Ishii (Ame-iro Cocoa: Side G) as the director, and Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombieland Saga, Murenase! Seton Gakuen) overseeing the series composition.

I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 9 Review- Heartbreaking Plot

im quitting heroing episode 9- queen

The series Yuusha Yamemasu has seemed to finally reveal the actual plot it was silently building upon all along. The tone of the anime has shifted from casual fireballing due to panic and having a fun, beach-themed episode to ones on a more serious note. Things had started to tense up from the time Leo had interacted with Mernas and have snowballed since. Especially the previous episode, where most of the screen time was dialogues answering multiple questions and explaining the plot.

With I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 9, we are finally at the turning point. Things can go south pretty quickly, as Leo is going to reveal his true identity to Echidna. The big reveal finally happens- well, not before some unexpected hiccup puts a deadline on the demon army’s stay in the human world. The Queen has one of the two choices, either go back to the demon world they all emerged from or led the already battered demon army into the war against humanity, which looks like a definite loss. Not to worry, our Queen is not that cruel!

Leo’s reveal about his true identity to the Queen, who had been kept in the dark about it, was being built up ever since the first episode when he joined the demon forces. Unexpectedly, when he takes off his mask in front of Echidna in Yuusha Yamemasu Episode 9, it is not a bombastic heroic reveal. Rather, it was the comic relief portion of the episode. The ground-shattering revelations follow after that.

The animation of I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 9 was well balanced between dialogue scenes and random attack scenes. The emotions were crazy high this episode- surprise, anger, disappointment, sadness- and were all delivered well, even with very few dialogues when needed. The plot is going strong, and even though it was slightly predictable in the beginning, it quickly took an expected turn. The ending music was themed well, leaving the episode on a high note of suspense and disbelief.

With this episode, we have one thing clear. The reason Leo had initially given for quitting heroing was flaky and very hero-unlike. This episode of I’m Quitting Heroing makes it crystal clear- and honestly, it is a plot I did not expect from a workplace-comparing anime. His character is quite an analytical one, and many of his reasoning and strengths are explained beautifully in this episode. With an unthinkable conflict ahead, I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 9 had quite the buildup and reveal!
