Tomodachi Game Episode 9 Overview

Tomodachi Game, or Friends Game in English, is a psychological strategy anime belonging to the Death Game genre, a kind of anime that pits several characters against each other in a bid to make one of them outlast them all. Tomodachi Game Episode 9 Review- Yuichi Has A Plan

Spy Tomodachi Game Episode 9

This show doesn’t know the meaning of subtlety. It doesn’t have a deceiving bone anywhere inside it, as despite its efforts to keep things from the viewer because it is a mystery show, it has yet to do one proper reveal. Every single time it is building up to something, make sure that you pay as little attention as possible. That is because even though it is going to act like things are happening, and it will drop certain “hints” that might look like they are related to the reveal, it will eventually pull the twist or the solution out of its ass.

One might ask, “What’s the point of having a mystery show, then?”. This looks like more of a tool for the writer to show us how intelligent he proclaims himself to be. Revealing things that weren’t hinted at and were vague from the start isn’t a very intriguing mystery and acts as more of a worldbuilding aspect. It is fine for what it is, but it betrays the show’s premise and how it originally started with an initial mystery about who entered those friends into the game. It is something else entirely right now, but there seem to be multiple factors at play.

Watchparty Tomodachi Game Episode 9

We knew Yuichi had a plan to escape from where the other team was watching them. We know this because the show told us multiple times. We knew Tenji wouldn’t give up because he told us multiple times. It was just a matter of how, and the method turned out to be your standard “titillate, distract, and escape”, as seen in several other forms of escape. There wasn’t a single original idea in this episode, and if anything, it made the show look even more transparent with the tricks it uses to make it seem smarter and edgier than it is. Even so, this episode wasn’t a bad watch.

The plot of Tomodachi Game Episode 9 seems to revolve around letting Yuichi make these absolutely insane faces every episode. In each new outing, you can find at least three screengrabs of Yuichi smiling like a maniac but failing to convey the emotions he is supposed to. He looks constipated in most of those frames and not the chaotic evil he is supposed to be. It’s not just him that does it, as it is something that the show likes to apply to everyone it can. However, he is the most likely recipient.

It is even hard to remain hopeful about the show’s future right now, as the outro already hinted at what it was going to be doing for the next episode. That kind of storytelling isn’t very exciting because you learned about most of the characters it involved a week ago, and there hasn’t been enough time to connect to them to feel anything about their situation. They are just pawns in a game far beyond their understanding, and watching them run around wild and confused isn’t going to be much fun for any party. Well, except for Yuichi. He’s crazy, as those faces tried to warn you.

Verdict

Tomodachi Game Episode 9 was another middle of the road outing that didn’t do much for the plot or character development, and it certainly wasn’t a pleasure to look at.
