Host 2025 Review: Ing is sent to the all-girls Pinijkhun Reform School, where she stumbles upon its strict hierarchy that targets her mercilessly. However, soon, a bigger, more malicious problem crops up that threatens their very lives.

Host 2025 Review

Thai film Host is another school bullying entry featuring Veerinsara Tungkitsuvanich, a combination that I watched a few hours ago. Although completely different in every way, I think it isn’t a coincidence that we see the actress in two different films featuring school bullying with a touch of the supernatural!

Either way, I really enjoyed watching Host on Prime Video for what it was – an intense story on bullying and its consequences, and karma is right there to catch you when you least expect it. At the helm of the bullying is Aim, a young woman who has been baited by the authoritarian principal of the institution to bully the other students to get her freedom. In comes new student Ing, with her own dark past, and a dangerous guardian who will stop at nothing to protect her.

The folklore is very interesting, and the context in the school setting makes for a tense and gripping watch. The production quality is top-notch, and the lonely atmosphere of the lighthouse adds to the tension. Although most, if not all, the scares are generic and obvious, it’s the setting, the folklore and the bullying that come together to deliver a somewhat enjoyable experience. I found the ghosts’ effects to also be quite creepy, although going a bit too close might end up taking away from whatever little discomfort you might have previously felt.

The social commentary is also great, as we see a power-hungry principal taking advantage of young girls on a lonely island who don’t know any better. It’s quite a depressing and morose watch around every turn, and viewers will feel the hopelessness that these girls feel as they live in fear every day.

Perth Veerinsara Tangkitsuvanich is fantastic as Aim and sells her role of a desperate woman looking to start her life so well. You feel for her and Baipor Thitiya Jirapornsilp’s Ing because both of them have been pushed to their limits in different ways. There’s no winning her and no right answer, and that’s what makes this such a sad watch.

The thrills, chills and horrors are quite generic in Prime Video’s Host, but it’s the story underneath that keeps us hooked. Plus, the fantastic production quality helps. I think sometimes generic horror stories can be comforting to watch in a weird way if done right, and that’s what I felt about Host!
