Pi-o is pushed closer to the truth he’s been avoiding for years. With Detective Martin and his photograph clearing showing that Ji-hye was involved in Jeong-yo’s kidnapping, this episode becomes less about revenge and more about guilt. Pi-o is ashamed, and he now has no idea what to do next.
Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 9 has a runtime of 60 minutes. The series (포핸즈) stars Song Kang, Lee Jun-young, Jang Gyu-ri, Kim Joo-heon, Yoon Se-ah and Jung Jin-young and is directed by Park Hyeon-seok.

Pi-o Finally Learns the Truth
The episode drops the truth bomb, showing a photograph where we see Ji-hye speaking to the security right before the Harmonie Competition. Pi-o confronts Ji-hye, and she admits to hiring a kidnapper because she wanted Pi-o to win the competition. Her justification feels pathetic because, for a selfish reason, she cost the life of another child.
What feels even more horrible is when Pi-o confronts her, Ji-hye gives him a choice. If he reveals the truth, she will end her life, and if he doesn’t, she will ensure Jeong-yo is all good. Now that Pi-o is lost between these choices, all he does is run to the piano and process his pain by playing it.
Jeong-yo Gives Pi-o Another Chance
Jeong-yo still supports Pi-o despite knowing it all. Pretending to have amnesia, Jeong-yo is probably saving either him or Pi-o or planning for revenge. But the way he helps Pi-o shows a whole different motive. He asks Pi-o to perform his new concerto and tells him to make up for using his sheet music all those years ago. Though this feels like a simple request from a friend, Pi-o feels heavily guilty.
Pi-o eventually agrees, even though practising the piece becomes irritating. Jeong-yo, however, tries to help him work the piece and feel the rhythm with his soul. Pi-o finds his instructions confusing, but for Jeong-yo, this is how he has always practised music. Instead of playing the correct notes, he has gloriously felt it and played the instrument.
A New Chapter for Jeong-yo
Jeong-yo’s character is developing ever more. Seung-woon considers stepping down and wants Jeong-yo to take over his position. However, Ji-hye hates this development and becomes the barrier once again.
Meanwhile, Seung-woon’s own relationship with music adds another interesting layer. He insists that as musicians, everyone must connect their soul to the notes, and this mirrors Jeong-yo’s ideology. This is why he has always felt Jeong-yo is the superior pianist. When Seung-woon experiences physical pain due to his sickness, it’s evident that the orchestra might be led by Jeong-yo, and Ji-hye might try to sabotage again.
Ji-hye Is Getting Desperate
Ji-hye tries her best to split Jeong-yo and Pi-o. She even asks Hyun-soo to separate them and later becomes convinced that Jeong-yo is pretending to have amnesia. When she tries to confront Pi-o, he refuses to listen to her. He tells his mother to stop irritating and following Jeong-yo. He asks her to leave him alone. Finally, he speaks up and cuts the pattern of always listening to his toxic mother. However, her statement regarding Jeong-yo pretending to have amnesia does stick with him.
The final scene makes that clear. Pi-o starts connecting Ji-hye’s claims with Jeong-yo’s recent behaviour and returns to the concert hall where they spent time together as children. As he reads the inscription Jeong-yo once looked at, the possibility that his friend remembers more than he has admitted becomes harder to ignore.
Final Thoughts
Episode 9 really was splendid. We saw so many character developments and truths getting uncovered. The concerto could become more than just a performance. It may be Pi-o’s chance to finally confront what happened between them.
And with Pi-o now questioning Jeong-yo’s amnesia, the carefully maintained distance between truth and revenge may finally start to disappear.
