Episode 4 puts Pi-o and Jeong-yo’s friendship under peak pressure. What began as a beautiful bond between two talented musicians slowly turns into a violent and fragile relationship because of family expectations, money, jealousy and deadly secrets which eventually tear the two boys apart.
Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 4 has a runtime of 60 minutes. The series (포핸즈) stars Song Kang, Lee Jun-young, Jang Gyu-ri, Kim Joo-heon, Yoon Se-ah and Jung Jin-young and is directed by Park Hyeon-seok.

Pi-O Finally Opens Up
In this episode, Pi-O tells his mother that he no longer wishes to compete in any piano contests. Piano has become more of an obligation than a passion. Only to satisfy his mother’s greediness, he has played the piano. He, for the first time, admits that he never really liked it.
Well, did Pi-o’s mother take it kindly? Absolutely not. Rather than listening to her own son, she acts rudely by throwing him out after grabbing his card. However, Pi-o isn’t fazed because he knows he has Jeong-yo. Jeong-yo doesn’t hesitate for a second but offers Pi-o his small dorm to live in. The boys have their sweet moments as they develop their wholesome friendship.
The Friendship Doesn’t Last Long
Just when we thought we could be happy, issues begin. The loan sharks make Jeong-yo’s life miserably and when the bad men realise who Pi-o is, Jeong-yo becomes worried that something might happen to his friend. Instead of telling Pi-o about it, Jeong-yo begins to act weird around him. For Pi-o, he misunderstands it, thinking that Jeong-yo is becoming a distant friend. Ouch!
Jeong-yo is trying to protect Pi-o, and the latter only wants his friend to be honest. Both the boys are failing at it and are miserably misunderstanding each other.
Adults Keep Making Things Worse
Agh! The adults are getting on my nerves. While the school principal pays part of Jeong-yo’s debt, she has a hideous plan behind it. She simply wants to rule over Jeong-yo and make him into a musical prodigy and use his talents for monetary gain. Similarly, Pi-o’s mother wants to navigate his piano career for her selfish benefits.
She purposely lies to him, telling him that his agency is planning to replace him with Jeong-yo. She knows Pi-o is already insecure, and telling such a lie furthers his anger towards his only friend. And her plan works. Pi-o leaves Jeong-yo’s place without even telling him. Their friendship is once again cracked.
A Brutal Ending
The final scene brings everything crashing down. Jeong-yo is forced to perform for some elites connected to Pi-o’s grandfather in exchange for his debts being cleared. When Pi-o returns home, he misunderstands the whole scene and confronts his grandfather. Before he could reply, Jeong-yo comes in and starts praising Pi-o, which only worsens the situation.
As the episode closes, we see Jeong-yo leaving the house and hearing a scream. Pi-o is found unconscious by his mother, evidently showing how exhausted he is.
Final Thoughts
Episode 4 clearly shows how beautiful the friendship is and could have been only if the adults didn’t interfere. For their selfish benefits, they’re ruining two young minds. This series is highly relatable to many youths, as most of them tend to face certain similar situations.
Pi-o and Jeong-yo deeply care about each other, but here and there, some misunderstandings split them apart. In the next few episodes, we will soon witness the two hating each other. Hopefully they realise and re-bond!
