Fire Force Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

The episode kicks off on an intense note as Shinra receives a troubling vision through his Adolla Link. In it, he learns that Captain Burns is planning something sinister as he intends to implant a bug into Captain Obi. Realising the threat this poses, Shinra and the rest of Company 8 understand they can’t afford to waste time. Instead of carefully plotting out a course of action, they decide to act immediately to protect Obi from harm.

We also get a glimpse into Obi’s ideals, particularly his desire to shape Company 8 into more than just a squad but a close-knit family that values life. Hinawa, recalling Obi’s heartfelt words, becomes even more determined to bring him back safely. Meanwhile, the kingdom has started pushing false propaganda, claiming that Company 8 has abducted Shinra and is holding him captive. They’ve even branded all Company 8 members as fugitives and launched a manhunt.

Despite the kingdom’s efforts, not everyone in the Fire Force buys into the lies. Many begin to suspect that there’s more going on beneath the surface. But the real shock of the episode comes with Joker’s unexpected involvement. A former adversary of Company 8, Joker, now steps in to offer his help. He knows where Captain Obi is being held and insists on accompanying Shinra to that location, with the rest of the team close behind.

When questioned about his sudden alliance with Company 8, Joker claims it’s simply his instinct as someone who thrives in the shadows. More importantly, he believes that losing Obi would be a blow the empire cannot afford.

Shinra finally reaches the jail where Captain Obi has been kept hostage. There, he meets and confronts Captain Burns and asks him why he is siding with the enemies when he was supposed to be the good guy. Then Burns agrees that from his experience of the Adolla link, he has started to doubt God. Haumea also made him meet the Evangelist, and Burns now considers her an actual God.

Interestingly, Joker also agrees that the Adolla place does look like it is God’s place. However, as he never really made any vows to God, he never tried to see any justice or fairness there. Shinra also tries to use logic with Burns, but it is apparent that nothing will work for him. Hence, a visually spectacular fight between Captain Burns, Shinra, and Joker, starts where Burns is clearly in the lead.

Somewhere else, even Captain Burns’s own people are confused as to why he is doing what he is doing. He wants to turn Earth into a second sun, and it doesn’t make sense. Thankfully, the rest of the Company 8 members are already approaching Shinra. An interesting aspect is that Captain Burns explicitly told Haumea to keep herself and her people out of the situation where he would face off against Shinra.

In this episode, we also find out a lot more about Haumea’s plans and how she is keeping Captain Burns alive because she thinks he’s too important. She later plans to link him to a doppelganger and use him for her goals.

Today’s episode was very interesting as it focused mainly on Captain Burns and his motives. It is still a mystery whether he is doing all these things because he truly believes in Haumea or he’s just trying to get his enemies to believe he is siding with them.
