Drops of God Episode 4 Recap

The episode starts by showing us the duo getting their pictures taken officially for the duel they are about to engage in. In this conversation, they are starting to figure out more about each other. Issei explains that Alexandre never mentioned that he had a daughter, and neither did he mention anything about an inheritance. Camille is convinced, however, that she needs to win this inheritance after realising that her dad had done nothing wrong in her childhood.

Let’s put the brakes there for now because we are taken back to the early 90s when Alexandre was still getting his degree in oenology from the university and had to give a viva for his thesis. He is telling his wife how the interviewers are a collective of commercialised sommeliers who don’t really care about the wine and just care about filling their coffers. In accordance, he decides to go up to the interviewers and completely demolish their idea of what might be a good wine or not. It gets ugly, with the interview ending in shambles.

However, he still has a chance of making it. The last time he was at Phillipe’s place to take the Japanese students around the vineyard, he was allowed to teach a course at the university. That was not the only thing he picked up on. A brilliant wine connoisseur named Honako Tomine had graced his presence, and he was excited to see that she had also signed up for the oenology class at the university. Alexandre hits a snag on the road because students are not allowed to drink alcohol on University grounds.

So, he takes all of them to the local wine bar, where they first hone in on their sense of smell and then move further down the line to incorporate wines. Honaka is by far the most brilliant student. She picks up smells extremely quickly and also has a great memory for taste. Alexandre finds that extremely appealing, especially in a student. Meanwhile, his wife has been trying to get a job in the French Embassy, and fortunately, she has! They are all extremely excited, and Alexandre even attends a few events to keep his wife company.

He finds a publisher there who has been printing wine guides, and Alexandre’s radical notions about wine and snobbery have already gotten far enough to Tokyo. But when his course is terminated after an incident involving a drunk student, he decides to focus his energies on this guide he can build from scratch with all the opinions about wine that would make it interesting. Amidst this, he runs into Honako, who brings him a letter from the student who caused all this trouble.

Now that he is not their professor anymore, their connection is undeniable. The two of them immediately start an affair together. While things are going well with Marianne, Camille’s mother, Alexandre is working on his guide. On vacation with Marianne, he tells her that he is just a little behind schedule, but he will be able to do it. This is when she lets him know that she is pregnant. Meanwhile, Honako tells her friend that she is also pregnant, and it becomes exceedingly clear who these children are.

The episode ends with Issei arguing with his mother about Alexandre. Asking her why she didn’t say anything about knowing him. The picture they clicked definitely made it easier for him to probe. Honaka is taken back in time and looks at some of the old pictures with nostalgia and regret.

Drops of God Episode 4 Review

In the last episode, this writer mentioned that the main protagonists should get romantically involved with each other. They would promptly like to change their opinion. This backstory definitely gives us more insight into why Alexandre wanted this inheritance test in the first place. While it also creates more intrigue for the next few episodes because it is not like the tension has reduced between the main characters, but it might be interesting to see how it changes with the information revealing itself.

Meanwhile, the story has still remained interesting, even though we didn’t get to see any duel. The end of the episode also confirms that there will be a challenge in the next episode. The two of them in the elevator itself feel like crackling energy. Once their masks come off, their onscreen presence will skyrocket to new levels.

  1. I totally thought they were—hopeless romantic I am. But now, I’m almost rooting for Issei and Camille to find out to split the inheritance. It also explains so much more behind the contempt of Honoka.

    • I completely agree! I feel like they will both realise that everyone was right about Leger and fighting for this inheritance is probably an insult to them both. Meanwhile, Honoka and Marianne were both wronged by this wine fool.
