Doctor Lawyer (닥터 로이어) is a Korean law-drama TV series directed by Lee Yong-seok and stars So Ji-sub, Lim Soo-hyang and Shin Sung-rok, alongside other cast members. The series has 16 episodes and takes over MBC’s Friday-Saturday 10 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Tomorrow. Doctor Lawyer episode 5 has a runtime of 62 minutes.

Doctor Lawyer episode 5 starts with a mess – Yi-han walks into the penthouse into an almost-murder plot. Yu-na and Jayden Lee are both passed out on the bed thanks to their copious coke consumption. So, it turns out, Lee didn’t hit her over the head as it seemed like before; she fell and hit her head but honestly, does it make things better?
Seok-yeong gets a call about drug use from a mysterious caller. As Yi-han prepares to save Yu-na and Jayden from an opioid overdose, Seok-yeong is right at the door to bust the drug use. Although they don’t find anything thanks to Yi-han’s quick thinking, for some reason, Hyun-seong threatens Yi-han with such conviction that it almost seemed like he wasn’t going to be slapped by his father later on.
Anyway, Yi-han thinks that in the middle of trying to bust drug abuse is the correct moment to tell Seok-yeong that Seok-ju was murdered and it wasn’t an accident. It goes as well as anyone can imagine because that claim is wild but so is what she decides to do next – Seok-yeong tries to stab him with a broken wine glass.
He promises to tell her everything once he goes out of this situation and asks her to trust him. On the other hand, Jayden Lee eggs Hyun-seong on to open the door to another bedroom if he is interested to find his fiancée inside, in front of Yi-han and Seok-yeong. It will not only result in them being in a tough soup but will also hit Hyun-seong’s ego pretty hard, at least whatever is left of it.
As the prosecutor leaves, Yi-han stays back with Jayden Lee and smacks him right across the face for reporting the drug use at the penthouse in a bid to test Yi-han – it turns out that it was all a setup. Happy at being able to confirm Yi-han’s talents, Lee asks him to work for him. Meanwhile, Hyun-seong is irate at being stabbed in the back and then gets slapped by Jin-gi, as expected.
Jayden promises to help Yi-han get his medical license if he becomes his lawyer and helps him during his time in Korea. After Yi-han gives him a few conditions, the two agree to work together.
Later, Banseok tries to buy So-yeon with 1 billion won but, unfortunately, that doesn’t work for them. As they get ready to go to trial, the hospital makes two of the doctors present during the surgery unavailable so that they are not able to testify.
As the trial goes on, the defence brings up So-yeon’s delusion disorder in the court in a bid to prove to the court that she might have hallucinated everything. However, just as the lawyer starts blabbering about providing So-yeon psychiatric help at Banseok, she screams in the court that she heard everyone talking about a VIP having arrived and the doctor left right away.
Although Su-yeon tries her level best to prove to everyone that she was awake and that her surgery wasn’t done by the head surgeon, everyone just takes her outburst as further proof that she’s not mentally well. That, however, is quashed when Yo-sub comes to court, leaving everyone shocked.
Doctor Lawyer Episode 5 Review
Doctor Lawyer episode 5 is rather lukewarm. It’s not like the discussions taking place on the episode are boring but considering the pacing and the amount of information packed into the previous episodes, this one sticks out like a sore thumb. Even the court moments are rather tame.
I feel like we spent too much time at the penthouse mulling over the same thing over again in this episode for the episode to hold any kind of real tension. It’s just a lot of dialogue without many things going on.
Regardless, I will accept this episode to be a filler, bridging the gap between the episode we’ve already seen and the one that is going to air tomorrow.
