Do You Wanna Partner Review

In Do You Wanna Partner? two best friends go out into the big, bad world of craft beer to become their own bosses while bringing one of their fathers’ dreams to life. On the way, they fight against a tyrannical business magnet and society’s prejudices to create a successful business. If you remember watching Call Me Bae, then the 2025 series will feel all too familiar.

A female-centric, light-hearted series about women facing society’s prejudices head-on feels all too relatable, making it easy to follow. But Do You Wanna Partner, beyond its frilly exterior and beautiful leading ladies, feels obvious and a bit too convenient. The central conflict, that the women are not being taken seriously because of their gender, is solved not just miraculously but also unbelievably and although I am all for giving misogynists a taste of their own medicine, I feel like cheating your suppliers and investors is not the best idea out there. It’s also an improbable solution.

Of course, this isn’t to say that watching Bhatia and Penty trying their hands at making beer, trying (very hard) to speak in Bengali, and trying to get revenge against Walia isn’t entertaining. In fact, I found it quite watchable. But it’s the improbability of certain situations that truly makes the series feel silly sometimes and takes you out of the flow. Thankfully, both the leading ladies are interesting and enchanting to watch and have that charm that makes you feel mesmerised. Penty and Bhatia’s chemistry is great and makes up for a lot of the insanity that we see unfolding on-screen.

The conflicts and issues that stem from the series are also quite obvious and sometimes even unnecessary. Here, I will say that Jaaved Jaaferi makes for a great character whose problems are both hilarious and unique. Jaaferi is perfect in his role and makes things a bit lighter for the series, and viewers will find it entertaining to watch him on screen. Other than that, the conflict with Walia is obvious and doesn’t feel too threatening. I found the women’s struggles to set up the brewery to be more thrilling than their beef with Walia. Shweta Tiwari and Neeraj Kabi are great here, although I hoped for Walia to be a bit more menacing than making weak threats.

Do You Wanna Partner is fun and entertaining on the surface and makes for a good watch if you don’t go too deep. The story is a bit different, so is the casting, and thus it definitely makes an impression. But the series feels empty if you dig deep, so it’s important to adjust our expectations with this one.
