Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2: Exciting News on The Renewal and Cast Return

Even though the most anticipated action drama has ended, we have some good news! Yes, Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2 (김부장 / Manager Kim) seems to have received the green light, though the official production team hasn’t confirmed yet. Well, the discussions have been confirmed, but a formal green light is still pending. Before we miss out on the excitement, here is some news that seems like a good sign of the drama’s return.

The first season, with 10 episodes, stars So Ji-sub, Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, Seo Su-min, and Seo Ji-hye, and is directed by Lee Seung-young.

Is Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2 Confirmed?

Not yet, but the chances are higher than ever. After season 1 ended, the fans gave it a positive rating as the action, comedy and emotional storyline were well balanced. Given the fans’ requests for another comeback, the talks of season 2 have already started. However, since the first season has just ended, season 2 might have its production schedules and release plans far, far away.

Earlier in July, SBS said that they’re only focusing on season 1 and the next season wasn’t something to consider. But due to the popularity, the team has taken a step forward in the discussions. Meaning, it’s already a huge sign.

Why Season 2 Seems Almost Inevitable?

The series did really well as it opened with a 9.5% nationwide rating. The ratings seem to have surpassed 23% by mid-season, making it one of SBS’s highest-rated dramas that aired on Friday-Saturday.

The international response has been equally remarkable. On Netflix, multiple countries kept the series at No. 1 in the Global 10. Those numbers reportedly place it well ahead of several other major 2026 Korean dramas released on the platform. Given its strong nationwide and international ratings, the team is wondering what’s next.

The Webtoon Leaves Plenty of Story to Tell

The reason why another season might work is that the webtoon still has so much to work on. Yes, so far, the director and the crew only captured the first 45 chapters out of 250+ chapters. Meaning, the second season can delve into more of the webtoon’s storyline and bring it to life.

If Season 2 performs as well as its predecessor, the franchise could realistically continue for several more seasons.

Who Could Return?

While it’s only under discussion, details about the cast aren’t yet confirmed. However, it is evidently known that the trio would definitely return because they were the central aspect of season 1 and not seeing them return might bore the crown.

So Ji-sub would almost certainly reprise his role as Agent Kim because, in the finale, we learn that he survived under a new identity rather than dying. The emotional ending with Min-ji strongly suggests their father-daughter relationship will remain the heart of the story.

The finale even introduced Mr Lee Do-gyu, who interviews Kim for a mysterious new position requiring combat expertise. So this might be the storyline that Season 2 might dig into.

When Could Season 2 Release?

No production schedule has been announced yet. If the renewal gets a green light, then the shooting will start in the coming months, and the chances of it releasing in 2027 are higher. In 2026, absolutely not. But maybe in the first half of 2027 or the second half. But if they’re going for a more detailed work, 2028 might be the year too.

Final Thoughts

While Agent Kim Reactivated Season 2 hasn’t been officially confirmed, the possibilities seem to be bigger. As the series has broken ratings and has dominated Netflix, reaching a global audience, the team tend to discuss the next instalment.

If the production team’s ongoing discussions result in a renewal, viewers can likely expect Agent Kim to return for another adventurous and action-filled mission with his favourite friends, Jin-cheol and Han-su.
