MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 15 Review: Elimination Round is a True Nightmare

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 15 Review: After anticipating for months, the show premiered its fifteenth season with wonderful home cooks ready to win the grand title. On the judge’s panel, we have the previous season’s professional chefs, Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and late Jock Zonfrillo, back on the set to taste and deliver excellent critics. Surprisingly, it doesn’t stop with them because other professionals like Jamie Oliver will also be making cameos to test the contestants with their best.

The participating contestants are Adi Nevgi, Alice Han, Amy Tanner, Andrea Puglisi, Antonio Cruz Vaamonde, Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Grace Jupp, Jessica Perri, Larissa Sewell, Malissa Fedele, Phil Conway, Ralph Kahango, Rhiannon Anderson, Robbie Cooper, Rue Mupedzi and Theo Loizou.

The Sunday elimination round went overnight and the contestants were shocked when they learned about it. On the first day, they were given 45 minutes to prepare items that required overnight stay for a better-finished meal. They were given 60 minutes to wrap up their final dish the next day. Since Declan won the immunity pin, he didn’t take part in the elimination challenge.

The overnight challenge excited everyone since they were given ample time and also were permitted to cook a dish of their choice. Each contestant went to pick up their items once the timer kicked. Except for Grace, everybody had a variety of meat on their counter and she had the will to win with a vegetarian dish (she did!). From duck to pork, each contestant planned a unique dish that contain memories as well.

On the first day, everybody successfully wrapped the base of their dishes. During their preparation, the judges gave their input and also checked their ideas. Jock wasn’t sure of Amy’s idea since she decided to blend Japanese and Mexican cuisine together. The second day arrived and the cooks continued with their dishes.

For most of them, their overnight preparation looked excellent while for certain cooks especially Rhiannon, things didn’t sit well. Nevertheless, she still continued with what she planned. Similarly, Malissa’s Italian dish’s flavour was also sort of mismatched and she figured it out only after Jock tried her sauce and gave her a heads up. Since there wasn’t much time left, she proceeded with whatever she’s made and tried her best to bring the balance.

Everyone rapidly cooked and once all the dishes were done, the judges asked the contestants to come one by one to present. Theo was asked to come first and his food was so good that Andy asked him to take a bite. Jock simply gave an applause that conveyed his dish was absolutely perfect. After him, many other contestants also got positive feedback.

Another notable dish was of Robbie’s. After preparing his duck stew, Robbie became very emotional thinking of the times he cooked for his family. When his dish was tasted, it was so marvelous that Jock gave the old pal a hug. Robbie is definitely a star. Now, coming to the negative remarks, Malissa, Amy, and Rhiannon’s dishes disappointed the judges. In fact, Jock stated to Rhiannon that the day’s preparation is the worst one of all her excellent preparations.

After a thorough discussion, the judges saved Rhiannon since her sambal was great. Due to the tortillas being too thick and the pork too dry, Amy was eliminated which ultimately gave Malissa a second chance. The contestants and the judges bid her a warm farewell.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 15 Review: Final Thoughts

The overnight elimination challenge is a game-changer because obviously none of the contestants would have peacefully slept. Sleeplessness ultimately pushes one to mess up on the big day. As much as it sounds bad, that’s what makes it a tough challenge. Despite the panic, everyone tried to finish their dish within the given time.

It was really a great challenge and a good way to finish off the big week. The judges were kind and conveyed honest opinions in a professional way. Though Amy has a lot of potential, her fresh idea didn’t work out well. Hopefully, in her future endeavours she will create new creative dishes like this.
