MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 19 Review: Flambé Technique Almost Burned Contestants Brows and Beards

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 19 Review: After anticipating for months, the show premiered its fifteenth season with wonderful home cooks ready to win the grand title. On the judge’s panel, we have the previous season’s professional chefs, Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and late Jock Zonfrillo, back on the set to taste and deliver excellent critics. Surprisingly, it doesn’t stop with them because other professionals like Jamie Oliver will also be making cameos to test the contestants with their best.

The participating contestants are Adi Nevgi, Alice Han, Amy Tanner, Andrea Puglisi, Antonio Cruz Vaamonde, Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Grace Jupp, Jessica Perri, Larissa Sewell, Malissa Fedele, Phil Conway, Ralph Kahango, Rhiannon Anderson, Robbie Cooper, Rue Mupedzi and Theo Loizou.

The winning team of the previous day’s service challenge proceeded to the immunity pin round. While entering the main kitchen, the contestants saw Shannon preparing a flamboyant crepe. Shannon taught the cooks the method to make the flambe technique as their day’s challenge is around it. The three judges explained that the contestants must prepare a dish where they can input the flambe flamboyant trick.

They were given 75 minutes to prepare a dish. Some chose desserts while some preferred to nail with meat. Almost all of them got positive input from the judges when they came around to check on them. However, Adi’s smores idea wasn’t conveyed well so they returned doubtfully. When the cooks started to try the Flambe technique, everyone endured anxiety because the flame was so high that Brent, for instance, would have burned his beard.

Finally, the cooks came in for their presentation and every one of them got positive comments. Thankfully Adi’s idea turned out well and the judges were impressed. Brent’s skewers were brilliant and he received an applause from Jock (we love it when Jock does that!). It was assumable that Brent won the immunity from Sunday’s elimination and a chance to beat a professional chef to get the immunity pin.

Brent had to battle professional Chef Gabrial Gate (such a sweetheart) in the second round. The ingredients were different types of beverages. Brent chose the orange juice and Gabrial chose Champagne. Brent got 75 minutes and Gabrial an hour. They both started their preparation vigorously.

Then after their wild fight, the judges who were in the private room tasted the dishes. First, they tried Brent’s preparation and loved every ounce of it. Secondly, Gabrial’s dish was tasted and they loved that as well but Andy’s prawns were quite raw and so there were some negative markings.

The judges came out to the main kitchen and asked whose dish belonged to who before announcing the results. Gabrial’s scores were generous but Brent’s scores were humongous (he deserved it). Brent received the immunity pin and Gabrial gave the competitive cook his words of wisdom.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 19 Review: Final Thoughts

It is wonderful to see professional chefs being so humble and goofy. Gabrial Gate’s presence was more than enough to fill the space with his positive vibes. His words to Brent were out of pure experience and that’s a blessing for the contestant/s. Today’s idea was really great and challenging, so kudos to the team.

Apart from that, it was nice to see all the contestants getting a positive remark meaning their skills are indeed growing. Seeing them excel in every round is a true charm of the show.
