No Limit Ending Explained: How Did Roxana Die?

No Limit (Sous Emprise) is a sports-drama-romance movie written and directed by David M. Rosenthal and stars Camille Rowe, Sofiane Zermani, and César Domboy, alongside other cast members. The movie has a runtime of 118 minutes and is loosely based on the life of French freediver Audrey Mestre.

Netflix describes the movie as:

AN EXTRAORDINARILY TALENTED YOUNG WOMAN FINDS DEEP, DESTRUCTIVE LOVE WITH HER RECORD-HOLDING FREEDIVING INSTRUCTOR IN THIS VISUALLY ARRESTING ROMANTIC DRAMA.

No Limit: The Story

No Limit follows the lives of Pascal and Roxana, two freedivers who want to prove something to those around them and to themselves. Both come from a difficult home life wherein she has suffered from terrible depression while he has faced horrible domestic violence at the hands of his father.

When she meets him for the first time, she is a little lost. However, she is swept up in a torrid affair with him through which she finds her love and talent for freediving – a sport where being calm and collected is the most important. Unfortunately, Pascal is a rather promiscuous and volatile person and no sooner does the rose-coloured glasses come off do we see her second-guessing the relationship that she shares with him.

No Limit

This makes sense because Pascal is clearly cheating on him, exactly how he cheated on someone else with her. As their relationship becomes more and more toxic, Roxana finds her footing in the competitive world of freediving and makes a name for herself very quickly. Although everyone in her team is ecstatic for her, Pascal is clearly not happy. However, he constantly pushes her to test her limits, which is an extremely dangerous thing to do.

Pascal, on the other hand, is jealous of anyone who breaks the world record that he fails to break, thanks to his physical limitations. He constantly tries to break the record and attempt a dangerous stunt but fails every time. In the end, daring to break a dangerous record, Roxana finds her equipment not working after going to the depths of the ocean resulting in her not coming back to the surface on time and dying on the way up.

No Limit Ending Explained

In the end, it seems like Pascal was the one who messed with Roxana’s equipment to make sure that she was not able to break the world record. Although it’s not explicitly stated, we can be sure that that’s what happened, thanks to the look that Pascal gives a heartbroken Tom. Pascal’s jealousy took the better of him, and he made sure his biggest competitor wasn’t able to surpass him, plus that she wasn’t able to leave him either since he got wind of her affair with Tom.

Either way, it’s pretty certain that Pascal was the one who caused the accident that resulted in Roxana’s death.

No Limit is streaming on Netflix.
