Sins of Our Mother Plot/Storyline

The offficial Netflix synopsis reads:

When Lori Vallow’s kids vanished, the search for them unearthed a trail of suspicious deaths, a new husband who shared her doomsday views — and murder.

The trailer starts off by setting the record straight that before it all started, Lori Vallow led a peaceful life and “being a good mom (was) very important to (her), and a good wife”. Her former marriage with Charles was an “ideal” one for the world but if someone’s individual radical beliefs take center stage, the realtionship is bound to suffer the consequences.

Her meeting with Chad Daybell completely turned things around for her and her family. His extreme beliefs and thoughts of the apocalypse were deeply rooted in an aberrant comprehension of religion. It all pushed him to believe that he could differentiate between “evil” and “good spirits”.

Following that, we also see one of the three children of Lori Vallow bring his side of the story to the table and the tormenting day the police approached him to ask about his siblings Tylee and JJ. As a reflex action, he calls his mother but she doesn’t take the call. Furthermore, Charles revealed that Lori called “her own daughter a dark spirit” and often referred to their kids as zombies too.

The case soon escalated into attaining the status of a national story. As per the reports of the day, Daybell’s former wife was also found dead but Lori and Chad embarked on a “blissful” getaway wedding in Hawaii, all while her two children were missing.

So did Lori Vallow finally turn into a “ticking time bomb”? Did she really play a role in the disappearance of her children, after being swallowed by the bigoted ideology surrounding religion and apocalypse?
