Eventually, Ye-jin overhears Matthew talking about his feelings for her and realises she shouldn’t miss a person like him. The two unite and decide to never give up on each other.

Highlights of the Episode

As we head into the finale week, this episode balances almost all aspects to prepare us for the last two episodes. Matthew’s silence at the USU reunion at the beginning clearly indicates that the latter half of the episode will involve a conflict. Let’s come to that next, because before that, let’s explore what funny things happened.

Matthew and Ye-jin’s father had an awkward bonding at the grocery store, and it was super funny to watch. One particular scene where he awkwardly requests Ye-jin’s father to buy quail eggs, only to unintentionally insult his cooking skills. This makes Ye-jin’s dad get pissed off, and seeing Matthew struggling to make things right added great humour to the plot.

We also have the emotional aspects, where a flashback shows young Som-yi and Matthew’s direct involvement in the skincare incident. This makes the viewers understand why Matthew feels guilty and why he owes Som-yi. The episode also has Chango-ho’s betrayal and Michelle becoming an intimidating person.

Performance of the Cast

Ahn Hyo-seop’s comedy timings are great. Even though the character of Matthew is emotionally complex, given that he is a calm, quiet and introverted sort of man, Hyo-seop conveying it with charm has to be appreciated. An introvert being awkwardly funny also adds to the acting skills of Hyo-seop.

Chae Won-bin is such a beauty with brains. She, as Ye-jin, really sits well with me. Her ensemble actions, her maintenance of her emotional stability, and her cuteness towards Matthew were all well done. The chemistry Won-bin has with Hyo-seop is comforting and feels natural. Additionally, Som-yi’s cast also did a great job in revealing how two people’s guilt is involved with her.

Themes Explored

We once again have the theme of guilt being heavily focused on in this episode. Matthew’s trauma surrounding the Good Morning Cream incident continues to make the story interesting. The Som-yi flashback shows how much the scandal has ruined Ye-jin and Matthew’s mental health, given that they believe they’re guilty for the damage Som-yi endured.

There is also a focus on the theme of trust. The episode repeatedly shows that not everyone can be trusted, especially with Chang-ho’s actions setting up a future clash. His betrayal proves that the corporate world is beyond evil.

Direction and Editing

The grocery store scenes are well done using comedic timing and reactions. They all were shot perfectly, and the small details, like the “quail egg” joke and Ye-jin’s father getting offended. The actors’ reaction also makes the humour feel natural rather than forced. But for all of it to get covered, direction had to be great, and it was great!

The Som-yi flashback is directed with an emotional core. Instead of overusing melodrama, the scene focuses on expressions and atmosphere, allowing the emotional pain to speak for itself. We can clearly see how much damage she’s gone through and just why Ye-jin and Matthew feel heavily disturbed by it.

Final Thoughts

Episode 10 successfully prepares the drama for its finale week by balancing humour, emotional vulnerability, and rising conflicts. The grocery store scene alone feels like classic comfort-drama material, while the Som-yi flashback adds a heartbreaking emotional core.

Although a few conflicts feel slightly forced this close to the ending, the episode remains deeply engaging, thanks to the cast and their stellar performance. The plot reminds viewers that, beneath all the romance and comedy, Sold Out On You is ultimately a story about healing from guilt and learning how to move forward together.
