Down to Earth with Zac Efron Review: Pleasant Virtual Tour

Although a year late, but Indian audience can finally watch Down to Earth with Zac Efron from today. The American documentary series starring the actor and Darin Olien is out on Netflix India today. There are eight episodes in the series with episodes of 40-45 minutes duration.

In Netflix’s Down to Earth with Zac Efron, the Baywatch actor travels to different places in the world – Iceland, France, Costa Rica, Sardinia, Lima, Puerto Rico, London and Iquitos. American author and podcast host Darin Olien also accompanies the actor in this tour, connecting with nature, science, and people’s experiences.

In every episode, the duo travels to a new place and learns something new. The episodes show us the scenic beauties of every city/town/country they visit, their lifestyle, culture, practices, stories and more. In Iceland’s Laugarvatn, Efron and Olien meet Siggi Rafn Hilmarsson who cooks bread and eggs from the hot muddy ground by the lake. The ground is hot because of the lava, and the town is often cited as the hot spring town. I was fascinated as I’ve never seen anything like this before.

In France, they visit Paris but not to admire the beauty of the Eiffel Tower. Zac Efron and Darin Olien learn about the importance of water and how ‘purified’ water is not as good as people claim it to be. They show us how Paris provides clean and healthy water to its citizen, the homeless and tourists, free of cost on the roads. The duo also visits Sanctuary Our Lady of Lourdes and tells us about its astonishing history.

From taking us on tour to an eco-village, bursting ‘healthy’ food myths, showing potato cryopreservation, the impact of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, London’s pollution-reduction efforts to boosting the immune system in the Amazon rainforest, Down to Earth with Zac Efron is packed with everything. It’s a virtual tour for us that’s enjoyable and quite informative.

Zac Efron and Darin Olien are a delight to watch as they explore a new place and learn new facts. There’s terrific camera work, pleasant background music, funny jokes, heartbreaking and emotional moments, shocking elements and lots of adventure in the Netflix series. In one of the episodes, Efron says that the biggest threat to our planet is from human beings, and I cannot agree more. The documentary constantly reminds us that it is necessary to protect our Earth and its resources.

With his humble and good listening quality, Efron will win your heart. Considering he is a wealthy Hollywood celebrity, it’s good to see him blend easily with locals, understand their stories, and try something unconventional. Darin Olien has a deep voice that adds an exciting kick to the show. He’s as curious as Efron and quite knowledgeable about nature and food.

But the documentary might not interest everyone. The Netflix series is not just a travel show but has a deep focus on science, environment, food habits, history, and nature preservation. So people who are not fond of such documentaries might not enjoy this one to the fullest. That’s the only flaw I can mention in my Down to Earth with Zac Efron review.

Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Is it worth watching?

Overall, the documentary series is incredible. Due to the pandemic, we are stuck inside our houses for months. So the best we can do is give ourselves a virtual tour of different places and learning something new.

Down to Earth with Zac Efron is currently streaming on Netflix.
