9-1-1 Review Season 10: Fans on X Seem Devastated By the Cliffhanger of Episode 4, But Have a Lot to Say About the Show’s Writing

9-1-1 Review: The latest episode of 9-1-1 has sparked rather mixed reactions on X, with some fans calling it one of their favourite episodes while others seem to get increasingly frustrated with how the series handles the emotional storylines. The cliffhanger looks like it has done the job, but the conversation around the characters and the show’s approach to character development has opened a bigger discussion.

The viewers on X (formerly Twitter) do not necessarily seem to be asking for fewer dramatic developments but want the characters to do the TALKING in the reviews after the release of Episode 4. From questions about unresolved conversations to fans joking about rewriting the entire episodes based on the fan theories, here is what the viewers have been saying about 9-1-1 Season 10, with Episode 4 at the centre.

9-1-1 Review Season 10: Fans Think It Should Spend More Time on Emotional Resolution

One of the detailed criticisms came from X user @bucklleydiaz, who acknowledged that while they enjoy the directions the writers are exploring, the execution has been rather disappointing, writing, “As much as I love the routes they’re going down, they’re doing a terrible job executing it. 911 has always been about family, but these last seasons have only been trauma after trauma with minimum to no communication between characters therefore no emotional resolution.” A meme representing a rather disappointed face was added in the post.

The frustration is not necessarily about the storylines themselves, but about what happens after them.

Is the Editing Being Redone Based on Fan Theories?

A rather different kind of comment came from @godspeedbuckley, who offered a somewhat entertaining explanation for why 9-1-1 episodes seemingly finish editing before they air, writing, “I figured out why 911 eps are only finished editing like 30 seconds before airing.. it’s bc Tim sees our reactions/theories and rewrites the whole thing so they have 6 days to film and edit an entirely different episode x”.

The fandom is undoubtedly constantly discussing character dynamics, predicting storylines and dissecting the smallest interactions.

The Cliffhanger of Episode 4 Has Left Fans Devastated

Not every reaction was critical for 9-1-1. Some viewers seemed to love the episode, even when the final moments left them emotionally exhausted. The X user, @starbiastra, had a particularly short but expressive reaction to the Episode 4 cliffhanger of Season 10, simply writing, “10x4s cliffhanger omg… 911 ur going to hell omg”.

Another user @bucksnoopy, meanwhile, described the ending as devastating while calling the episode oneof their favourites from 9-1-1 so far, writing, “what a devastating end to the episode… one of my favourite 911 episodes by far though wow!! soso good”.

For the user @starbiastra, Episode 4 was, “10x4s cliffhanger omg… 911 ur going to hell omg”.

There is also a reaction that looks like a warning! User @dontsaymaggot shared their usual reaction to the 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 4, accompanied by warning emojis, mentioning that it was the “same as always”.

The Problem With Writing and Character Development

The X users seem to have issues with the writing of the series. User @taymaisies also pointed out that the series seems to have reached a familiar problem that affects several long-running television shows, writing, “the thing with 911 is that it has gotten to the same point as most shows where characters have grown so much that writers just start repeating plots and undoing their growth But the thing is that 911 Does still have cool things to do with the characters it just doesn’t want to”.

Another user, @NinaDance09’s reaction after the release of Episode 4 suggested the writing trouble, writing, “This 911 writers room is incapable of letting storylines grow and breathe. Not everything has to wrapped up in a nice little bow 1-2 episodes later”.

Criticism also spans to the larger discussion around the show’s storytelling. For user @duckie7582, 9-1-1 has never really been a series that explores emotional storylines in considerable depth, writing, “Unfortunately, 911 is never gonna be the kind of show that actually delves deep into emotional storylines. You get a scene or two that hit specific plot points then they move on. I almost feel like the Theo story is too deep for the show.”

X Verdict

By the reactions after 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 4’s release, the audience seems to be rather engaged. While the cliffhanger has left some viewers devastated and others calling it one of their favourite episodes, the criticism surrounding the show’s emotional storytelling is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook.

The viewers seem to perhaps be wanting the characters to sit down, have conversations and actually process what has happened to them.
