Uri The Surgical Strike

The movie revolves around the surgical strike executed by the Indian Army on suspected militants who attacked an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, in 2016. Based on the true events of the retaliation to the 2016 Uri attack, the film is a dramatised version of it and stars Vicky Kaushal along with Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina, Kirti Kulhari and Paresh Rawal in lead roles.

Being a recent event, the movie sheds light on the events that we only knew about through the news and gives us an intrinsic perspective of what could have happened on the enemy lines. You can watch this film on Zee5.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising

In this film, Mangal Pandey, a sepoy of Indian origin fights against British rule and saves the life of his British commanding officer leading to a strong friendship between the two. It is internationally known as The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey and is a historical biographical drama film based on the life of the Indian soldier known for helping to spark the Indian rebellion of 1857 (also known as The First War of Indian Independence).

Border

Starring Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in the lead roles. A band of 120 Indian soldiers in the Longewala Region defend their post all night until they receive assistance from the Indian Air Force, the next morning.

Many songs from this war movie, like ‘Sandese Aate Hai‘ became extremely popular and can be heard everywhere when talking about the brave soldiers of the country, who leave their homes to defend in extreme places. You can watch this film on Amazon Prime Video.

Raazi

Raazi is based on a true story of a young girl, who was sent to Pakistan in 1971, to source out any information she could, as the war was becoming imminent between India and Pakistan. It is the journey of an ordinary Indian girl, in extraordinary circumstances. This film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat and stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role, as well as features Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Shishir Sharma, and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles.

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India

In 1890s India, an arrogant British commander challenges the harshly taxed residents of Champaner to a high-stakes cricket match. It is a sports drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The film was produced by Aamir Khan, who stars alongside Gracy Singh and British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne.

It has all the elements that an Indian is highly interested in, cricket and winning over the Colonisers for your freedom. Rang De Basanti

This National Award-winning film follows a young woman from England who comes to India to make a documentary about her grandfather’s diary which was written in the 1920s about Indian Independence. She befriends and casts five young men in the film, which inspires them to fight against the corruption of their own government.

Starring Aamir Khan, Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and British actress Alice Patten. You can watch this film on Netflix.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh

It is a biographical drama of the legendary and extremist Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Starting with the British’s attempt to dispose of his body in secrecy, so that he could not be made into a martyr, the film proceeds to recount in detail how Singh came to develop his views on the British Raj and his relentless struggle for India’s independence.

Starring Ajay Devgan as the titular character along with Sushant Singh, D. Santosh and Akhilendra Mishra as the other lead characters. Raj Babbar, Farida Jalal and Amrita Rao also play supporting roles. Watch this film on Amazon Prime Video.

Lakshya

The film follows a young lazy boy, Karan Shergill (Hrithik Roshan), who has no aim in life and later transforms himself into a responsible army officer. The movie depicts Karan’s true dedication towards his goal because of his love, Romi (Preity Zinta). Soon, Romi gets engaged to another man. However, the lovers meet again in Kargil where Karan is at war.

This coming-of-age war-drama film was directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in lead roles with Boman Irani and Anjula Bedi in supporting roles. Ranjit Katyal is a rich businessman living with his wife and daughter in Kuwait. But all of a sudden, Iraq invades Kuwait, and Ranjit risks his life for the Indians abandoned helplessly in the country. When Iraq invades Kuwait in August 1990, a callous Indian businessman becomes the spokesperson for more than 170,000 stranded countrymen.

Upkar

Upkar is a 1967 Hindi Drama starring Asha Parekh, Manoj Kumar, Prem Chopra & others. A patriotic man from a village Bharat sacrifices a lot to get his brother educated. The brother returns from abroad a selfish man demanding his share in the property.

The India-Pakistan war breaks out & Bharat heads to join the army. His brother, in the meanwhile, sells drugs & indulges in black marketing. When Bharat returns from the war, his brother is a changed man and asks for Bharat’s forgiveness.
