Original series co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage return as executive producers for the extension along with Safran, who is also the showrunner. Ahead of the release of Gossip Girl Season 2, let us quickly go through what happened at the school of elites- St. Jude’s in season one and what might unfold for us in the second season!
Gossip Girl Season 1 (2021) Recap
Julien Calloway, the it girl of town, much like Blair from the original series takes the centre stage in the reboot. However, she is not alone in the limelight as her estranged half-sister, Zoya Lott gets enrolled in her elite school through scholarship and both are at the two extremes of the quintessential sibling rivalry that forms the base for Gossip Girl. Apart from the two sisters, their respective friends are also the ones whose lives get explored in the series one after the other.
Another very pivotal character in Gossip Girl Season 1 surely has to be the titular one. Kate Geller is the character who is the voice of the elite neighbourhood and instead of a blog, uses Instagram as her mode of disclosure of some heavy and dark secrets of the uptowners. She, of course, does it anonymously as she hides in plain sight. It is Julien who finds her way with the Gossip Girl in the show and makes her do all the dirty work while threatening to reveal the true identity of the anonymous Instagrammer.
The first season of Gossip Girl is dedicated to the toxic, on-again-off-again relationship shared between Julien and Obie Bergmann which comes to an end in the season finale. It did not help that Obie was into Julien’s sister Zoya (although, he did end up with Grace Byron), which gives the sibling rivalry all the more fire to cause hazards in the upcoming season. In fact, the season finale of Gossip Girl shows how Julien along with Luna La and Monet de Haan are planning to destroy Obie’s new relationship.

However, the most exciting and dramatic characters the show has offered us are Audrey Hope, Max Wolfe and Aki Menzies. At the very beginning of the season, we see Audrey (who is Julien’s best friend) dating Aki (who is Obie’s best friend). However, Aki turns out to be bisexual and Audrey has her eyes all over Max, who is pansexual, leading the three of them to become a throuple by the end of the season.
Although the parents and staff are the recurring set of characters in the show, they do play an important part in influencing the show’s storyline. There is Davis Calloway, who is Julien’s father and also a sexual predator. Meanwhile, Wendy is a part of the administration who helps Gossip Girl play her game.
