Gossip Girl Season 2 Finale Ending Explained: What Happens to the Manhattan’s Elite Gang?

The Gossip Girl Season 2 finale has aired and fans are left with a lot of loose ends to gather and contemplate. The final episode of the season is directed by Joshua Safran and written by Sigrid Gilmer & Pilar Golden. The episode is titled ‘I Am Gossip.’ The runtime for the episode is 50-60 minutes, much like the previous episodes.

Developed by Joshua Safran for HBO Max, the show serves as the reboot, an extension and a standalone sequel to The CW series of the same name that was based on the novel series written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Original series co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage return as executive producers for the extension along with Safran, who is also the showrunner.

The main cast for Gossip Girl Season 2 includes Jordan Alexander as Julien Calloway, Whitney Peak as Zoya Lott, Tavi Gevinson as Kate Keller, Eli Brown as Obie, Thomas Doherty as Max Wolfe, Emily Alyn Lind as Audrey Hope, Evan Mock as Aki Menzies, Johnathan Fernandez as Nick Lott, Adam Chanler-Berat as Jordan Glassberg, Zión Moreno as Luna La, Savannah Lee Smith as Monet de Haan, Luke Kirby as Davis Calloway, John Benjamin Hickey as Roy Sachs, Amanda Warren as Camille de Haan, Anna van Patten as Grace Byron, Todd Almond as Gideon Wolfe and Grace Duah as Shan Barnes. The OG narrator Kristen Bell continues to be the Gossip Girl voice for this season too.

Gossip Girl Season 2 Finale Ending Explained

Kate ends up falling into the trap laid out by Julien and Obie, where they circulate the fake news that a Gossip Girl movie is going to be made. In desperation, Kate outs herself as the person behind the GG account. Although she tries to explain to the children her intentions and goodwill, all of it falls on deaf ears.

We fast forward to two months since the event, where the group is seen vacationing in Rome. During this vacation, we see Obie, Julien, Zoya, Audrey and Aki together while Max, Monet and Luna are absent. The absence of these certain characters only amplifies that there is still an unseen tension in the group. We see Julien take on her maturity cloak in regard to Luna and Monet, while Max gets kicked out of the club on the other end of the globe.

However, the ending of Gossip Girl Season 2 leaves us with an anticipation that there might be a third season when Zoya crosses paths with Phillip Price, who asks her out. When she discusses this with the group, there is a suspicion that the group has met this Phillip guy as a similar thing has happened with each one of them.
