What happens if somebody other than you gets isekaid into another world? Uncle From Another World Episode 1 has got all the answers. Let’s see how good the new Netflix anime series was in this review!
Uncle From Another World Episode 1 Overview

Uncle From Another World or Isekai Ojisan in original Japanese is a comedy and fantasy anime based on a manga written by Shindeiru Hotondo and serialised in Web Comic Apanta. The series is developed by studio AtelierPontdarc and will be their first foray into the world of anime.
The show is being directed by Shigeki, who has been a part of the production of several anime in the past, including Darling in the Franxx and Blue Exorcist, although this is also his first venture into directing an anime. The episode is also called Isekai Ojisan Episode 1 and Isekai Uncle Episode 1.

Uncle From Another World Episode 1 Review- Magic Is Real

Just as ogres have layers, isekais have flavours. You know that every season is going to feature at least a few different isekais that hope to break through the stereotype developed around them. You see isekais with weird concepts and unique setups featuring protagonists that range anywhere from overpowered to literal garbage. By that logic, you know that you’re going to see the genre reimagined every season, and that’s what makes going through all the mid-tier isekais worth it.

Netflix’s latest acquisition is not pretty by any means. It doesn’t have much to offer you if you aren’t already a fan or at least knowledgeable about the isekai fantasy genre. However, suppose you somehow fall within these somewhat specific criteria. In that case, the first episode of Uncle From Another World does a lot to tickle that little isekai nerve inside your anime-fan heart. There is a lot to like about the show, and it could very well be a highlight of the Netflix Anime catalogue if it goes the way of Kotaro Lives Alone.

Like almost half of the genre’s current output, the series is extremely meta in nature. It being a comedy lends well to what the series tries to deliver, and there were some decent jokes in there that will force a chuckle out of you if you gel with the world that has been set up. The concept is certainly a unique one and combines two somewhat far-apart styles of storytelling tropes. One of them is, of course, the isekai fantasy, and the other is the “our friend from the past” style cliche.

The first episode sets the tone of the show quite well as it weaves its way through several expectations and predictable outcomes with ease. Truck-kun alone was enough to showcase that this anime wasn’t just your run-of-the-mill isekai experience. The fantasy elements combined with current-day Japan and how similar the two are despite being so different is what you can expect the show to feature more of in the future. From the console wars to Sonic The Hedgehog, Uncle has got his priorities certainly in order.

However, the series is said to have 13 episodes. Despite how good the first episode was, this doesn’t appear to be a concept that has enough legs to carry it to a season-long run. I’ll be glad to be proven wrong in this case, as Netflix has been delivering some unusually high-quality shows these past few years. Let’s all hope Isekai Ojisan is one of those. The show has everything it needs to be a standout of the season, and with enough consistency and the right mix of comedy and cutting satire will be enough and then some to keep it there.
Verdict
Uncle From Another World Episode 1 was a great showcase of a unique enough anime that mixed comedy and satire well. This looks to be a promising start for the new series.
