Twinkling Watermelon Episode 3 Preview: The K-drama Twinking Watermelon or Sparkling Watermelon (반짝이는 워터멜론) is directed by Son Jong-hyun and written by Jin Soo-Wan. Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, Seol In-ah and Shin Eun-soo will be appearing in the lead roles for the show. The show is expected to have a total of 16 episodes with a runtime of approximately 60 minutes each.

A 15.6 billion won production and supply agreement for the show was signed by production companies Pan Entertainment and Studio Dragon on September 5, 2023. The show takes over tvN’s Monday & Tuesday 8:50 time slot previously occupied by My Lovely Liar.

Twinkling Watermelon Plot

The story centres around a boy who is born and brought up by hearing-impaired parents. Moreover, he has a talent for music and is naturally gifted in the field. However, one day he visits a mysterious musical instruments store and travels back in time to 1995. There, Eun-Gyeol meets Lee Chan, Choi Se-Kyung and Yoon Chung-A. He forms an unlikely bond with them and joins the band formed by his father named Watermelon Sugar. Meanwhile, Lee Chan has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung, who is known as the Cello Goddess of Seowon Arts High School, and tries to win her heart.

The ensemble cast consists of Ryeoun as Eun-gyeol, the only hearing person in a family of deaf people. Choi Hyun-wook as Lee Chan who is a hot-blooded man who seems to have jumped out of a cheerful cartoon. Seol In-ah as Choi Se-kyung, the cello goddess of Seowon Arts High School. Lee So-yeon plays adult Choi Se-kyung. Shin Eun-soo as Yoon Cheong-ah, a cold and arrogant person, who is born deaf. She dreams of a sparkling life like Frida Kahlo.

In the next episode, Eun-gyeol finds himself in 1995 and meets his father right away who can hear and speak. He disguises himself as someone else and proceeds to join the band that his father is going to form to win over a girl. Moreover, Lee Chan and Se-kyung get closer to each other.

Twinkling Watermelon Episode 2 Recap

The episode starts with Eun-gyeol playing the guitar for an audience on the street. But there were three other boys waiting for him and after the performance, they approached him to join their band. However, Eun-gyeol refuses but after much persuasion, he decides to think about it. After giving it much thought, he joins the band but under the condition that his family and school come first.

In another timeline, we see Lee Chan has a crush on a popular cello player from his school. But his friend asks him to stop pursuing her because she comes from an extremely wealthy family. Moreover, she also had a boyfriend who studies medicine. But he does not back down and decides to join a band to impress her.

Later, while Eun-gyeol is practising, he gets a phone call that his father has met with an accident. Upon reaching there he finds his old lady landlord who accidentally bumped into his father. But his father informs the police that it was not the woman who hit him but her son. He also tells the landlord that he knows who set the house on fire and leaves the scene. Later, Eun-gyeol and his father have a conversation which leaves him guilty of lying.

Eun-gyeol goes back to his bandmates and tells them that he cannot be a part of the band anymore. It leads to a heated argument and then he informs them that a fire was caused because of him years ago and he cannot make his family go through it again. He goes back to the guitar shop again and finds a lady to whom he asks about the shop owner. She then invites him inside and gives him the guitar left behind by her father. It leaves him emotional.

He starts to contemplate his decision and realises his love for music. Then he goes back to the practice room and joins the band again. Later, his father goes to the police station again to teach the landlord’s son a lesson but the landlord reveals that Eun-gyeol does drugs and performs in underground shows. He rushes to the concert and finds Eun-gyeol performing. This leads to a heated concersation between them.

Eun-gyeol leaves the scene distraught. He reaches an open field and just when he is about to break his guitar, he notices something weird. He looks up at the sky and sees two moons. As he looks around he finds the same guitar shop. He enters the shop and sells off his guitar. When he steps out he finds himself back in 1995. Moreover, he meets the younger version of his father who can hear and talk perfectely well. The episode ends on that note.
