The 5th episode of Tomo-chan Is a Girl or Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! (トモちゃんは女の子!) is here, and this episode was just hilarious with its different character’s quirky antics and the random situations they fall into. Now without further ado, let us jump into this review.

Still From Tomo-chan Is a Girl

This series is that much-awaited anime adaptation of our beloved romcom manga of the same name. Fans of this franchise are beyond ecstatic that this perfection of a romcom is finally getting the proper treatment it needs, and we are excited to see how it goes.

The anime is directed by Nanba Hitoshi, who has worked on Anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, Hajime no Ippo, Gosick, etc. The sound director is Masanori Tsuchiya, who has given music to shows like Plastic Memories, Kenja no Mago, Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii, etc.

The opening song will be Kurae! Telepathy (くらえ! テレパシー)” performed by Maharajan. The ending theme is “yurukuru*love” performed by voice actors Rie Takahashi, Rina Hidaka, Sally Amaki.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Tomo-chan Is a Girl Episode 5 Review and Recap – Great Friends

Still From Tomo-chan Is a Girl

Another hilarious episode of Tomo-chan Is a Girl! is here, and we are back again with its review. Today’s episode started with Tomo and Misuzu going to visit Carol at her house. This would be the first time we will see where she lives and also encounter her parents. The map Carol provides to her friends is definitely not helpful, and her friends barely manage to find a huge property that proves Carol’s wealth.

Thankfully, Carol and Misuzu meet a woman who looks exactly like Carol at the gate, and we understand that it is none other than Carol’s mother. She becomes pleasantly surprised that her daughter has invited friends over, and she quickly them in.

Later, when Misuzu goes to use the bathroom, Carol’s mother follows her and asks about her rude behaviour towards Carol. Being the pursuer of entertainment, Misuzu outright tells her how she is friends with Carol just because of her money. Misuzu thought she could have some fun by shocking Carol’s mother, but Mrs Olston is just too much like Carol, and she laughs at Misuzu’s attempt to joke around with her.

The next story focuses on Tomo trying to pass her results and asking for guidance from Misuzu, who is clearly an elite student. By the end of this segment, we got to know that Carol is not what she seems like from the outside and that she can be pretty talented herself.

The last bit was definitely the most entertaining of this episode. Jun invites Tomo to his house to have a gaming sleepover where they would play games and hang out the entire night. Tomo also agrees without realising the context of this whole situation. The moment you think Tomo will be the only one who will be conscious of the other, you see that Jun is conscious of Tomo, as well, and even confused about his own feelings.

Verdict

This episode again delivered a good light-hearted comedy. We meet two new characters in this episode, they are Carol’s mother and Misuzu’s mother, who are absolutely copy-pasted versions of their daughters.

We also saw some development in the relationship between Jun and Tomo, and hopefully, from here on, we will see more interactions between them. Watch this anime on Crunchyroll.
