Transformers Rise of the Beasts: Is a GI Joe Crossover on the Cards? Release Date, Cast and More About the New Chapter

Long-running franchises can result in skewed timelines, but they also garner a loyal fanbase over the years. The same can be said for the upcoming highly anticipated live-action instalment based on the Hasbro’s toy line – Transformers 7 or Transformers Rise of the Beasts. So where does the new chapter stand in the chronology, and what purpose is going to headline the American action movie this time? All your questions will be aptly answered here!

Directed by Steven Caple Jr, with a screenplay by Joby Harold, Darnell Metayer, Josh Peters, Erich Hoeber, and Jon Hoeber, the film has again been produced by Michael Bay, the director of the first set of Transformers movies. However, he’s not the only behind the project. Several more people including Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and others have collectively produced the upcoming instalment while a few have also stepped up as executive producers for the venture. Now, with the technical jargon out of the way, let us jump right into what this film (distributed by Paramount Pictures) is all about.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts Cast

Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback have been casted in the lead roles as Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace respectively. The comes the Transformers crew – Peter Cullen has voiced the leader of the Autobot resistance aka Optimus Prime, the adorable Autobot scout whom everybody loves and admires as the yellow Chevrolet Camaro, but he falls back on the radio to the talking for him.

Newer introduction in the squad include Pete Davidson as the Autobot spy Mirage, Liza Koshy comes in as the Autobot sharpshooter Arcee, Cristo Fernández will voice the Autobot scientist Wheeljack, and John DiMaggio will lend his voice to the Autobot Air-soldier Stratosphere.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts Plot/Storyline

In terms of the timeline, the upcoming title will serve its purpose as the sequel to the 2018 standalone movie Bumblebee starring Hailee Steinfeld, and therefore, also a prequel to the original 2007 Michael Bay Transformers. Set in 1994, Optimus Prime and the league of Autobots come face to face with their biggest planet eating foe yet – Unicron.

The backstory of it all predates even 1994 and goes back to prehistoric Earth. The planet-devouring dark god annihilated the home inhabited by Maximals, and so their forces fall back to the green planet. In an unlikely and ill-timed alliance, both forces team up to fight against the common enemy. In the midst of it, some lives are lost and some gained, but there’s also the timeless bond shared between human beings and these somewhat anthropomorphic huge machine-like creatures that’s tested in every Transformer movie ever made.

This time (or in 1994), Ramos’ Noah, an ex-military tech guy, ends up discovering Mirage in the guise of a car. When the latter’s true identity is revealed, they start to bond, leading to yet another human-transformer alliance.

It’s also been reported that the soon-to-release film will suggest some easter eggs related to Hasbro’s sister line of action figures – GI Joe, also yet another live-action adventure movie franchise. Since both stories and entities find their sources in the same creative, it was only a matter of time that they finally crossed paths in the movies too. While it may not be one of the most asked-for collaborations, the Transformers and GI Joe Crossover seems to be in full swing if the rumours are to be heeded.

The last few GI Joe have severely tanked at the box-office, so it would require a lot of planning to make this team-up work in the end. Although this further makes the timeline and the whole picture a lot more fuzzy, speculations have credited to the idea of a full-fledged crossover project being in the works too.
