The entire concept of The Ultimatum, personally, is broken. From season 1 of the original, it has always been a fever dream and a show whose concept doesn’t make sense. Breaking up and living with new people for a few weeks and then with old partners for a few weeks feels like a doomed concept because the two situations can never be the same. There has to be a difference between living with someone you have dated for however many months/years and then with someone you have just met. What an odd thing to concoct.

On top of that, imagine going to a Netflix show to save your relationship! It’s not shocking that we saw most of the original couples ending up together in the midst of the first season after everyone got spooked. What I am trying to say is that you can give ultimatums at home without making it a spectacle of epic proportions on national TV. Coming to this dumpster fire of a show is probably where your soul will go up in flames but considering there are a few more iterations coming out, I gotta say that couples around the world really like airing their dirty laundry for all to see.

The most shocking thing about The Ultimatum in general is that so many of these people are either extremely young or in very young relationships. One of the couples in this iteration is only 5-6 months into their dating life and apparently, there’s already an ultimatum on the cards – I can’t even wrap my head around what that is supposed to mean! That’s one of my problems with this show as well, most of these people can come tp an understanding and compromise if they speak to each other with patience but, for some reason, they come to Netflix to get their answers…. which is absolutely wild.

One of the most odd things about this show is that couples who consensually come here always end up being oddly jealous and vindictive about their ex-partners getting together with others… while they get together with others. And, it’s nice to watch the different relationships and emotions evolving through these challenging circumstances. But what we see in this show in particular is just an odd display of emotions for no reason. First off, this show isn’t new, all of these contestants knew what they were getting into. Plus, what were we thinking when the entire premise of the show is breaking up with your significant other and living with another person?

Situations like these just bring out the worst in other people so I guess it’s the best thing to watch on reality TV. It’s a dumpster fire that we hate to watch and it is what it is. There are a few moments of emotional maturity here and there and it’s extremely watchable, but honestly, shows like these are just so draining on the soul!

Four Hands, Two Sonatas Episode 1 sets up a dark and intriguing rivalry between two talented pianists from completely different worlds. With familiar tropes, beautiful music and striking visuals, the Netflix drama starts on a surprisingly strong note.
