The Ultimatum Queer Love Episodes 5-8 Review: Netflix is back with another reality show, and this time it is a new take with a new version of the tried-and-true option of having partners give each other an ultimatum. This version of the show is hosted by JoAnna Garcia Swisher. There will be 5 couples in the show – Lexi Goldberg and Raelyn, Vanessa Papa and Xander, Sam and Aussie, Mildred Bustillo and Tiff Der, and Mal Wright and Yoly Rojas. There will be ten episodes in this season, of which four have been released. The next four will be released next week, and the final two the following week.

At this point, I don’t understand relationships and the human mind. During the trial marriages, some cheated on their partners, which is quite understandable because when two attractive people are forced to live together, intimacy is an option. But, the important part of this show is to see whether the people have been in love with their partner all this while. So if you have those intimate moments with another one, where is the lie? It’s clear they weren’t.
So the day comes when after the trial marriage, all the couples share their perspectives. Some are in love with their new partners, while some were loyal to their old partners. My question is, if you have fallen in love with the new person, why are you returning to your old mate to make the relationship work? What is love here? I mean, where is love here?

Alright, let’s compromise on this part since people madly in love forgive their partner’s mistakes and give their relationship a shot. But in this show, it’s just so dumb. During the compromising stage, despite knowing their partner has been with another person and has confessed feelings for them, the amount of effort the old partners put to get back the love of their life is so cringe. Girl, if your person is gone, they’re gone. Why so much effort?
Can You Respect Their Privacy?
Most of the reality shows, especially dating shows, are okay with showing the contestants’ private times censored. The real deal is, why is this shown? Even if the participating people have given their consent, shouldn’t it be respected a little bit? In The Ultimatum Queer Love, the viewers get to see the couples making love through a night vision camera attached to their rooms. Though, thankfully, we don’t get to see the whole process, something bugs me there.

If the viewers get to see only a few seconds of them in bed, it means the crew watches or records the whole sexual activity, right? For the viewers, it’s shortened, but the crew legit records the participants’ entire sexual time—is this even appropriate and legal? It’s disturbing. Another messed up factor about the show is when the participants’ are breaking down, the camera person runs and captures their vulnerable side. Can we give them some space to cry? Is the show’s footage more important than respecting a human’s feelings?

Pros? Nothing Special About The Show
Honestly, dating reality shows have nothing nice to watch, so I don’t understand why Netflix especially runs behind these shows. Anyway, coming to this particular LGBTQIA+-based show, plenty of myths attached to queer people’s relationships are broken. Love is love, and queer people are going to be doing any stunts in that, so by watching this show, hopefully, certain stereotypical story-building people will close their mouths.
However, apart from this aspect, nothing, like literally nothing, is special in this show. Splitting partners and making them live with another person just to test their loyalty and their feelings is a cheap move. Secondly, their private space being clouded and the crew constantly running around the participants’ is absolutely sick. Why are these shows violating people for the sake of views?

The Ultimatum Queer Love Episodes 5-8 Review: Final Thoughts
I don’t understand love anymore, and that’s for sure. When I saw Xander going around saying she loves Yoly and also making out with Vanessa, I lost it. There are so many instances like this in the show that I can rant about because it only made me believe less in relationships. Can we talk about how Mal literally met Lexi’s parents and confessed her love before returning to Yoly and asking her for marriage? Good Lord!
Overall, Netflix loves to waste money on these unnecessary shows and if you’re in for drama, then good for you. Apart from this, nothing big to talk about and appreciate.
