The season finale has left the fans of the show emotionally unavailable for the next few business days, but it’s imperative that we discuss the Ted Lasso Season 3 ending to further analyse if the leading roster of the show’s characters received their satisfactory, happy endings or not. Premiering on May 31, 2023, at 9pm PT, the last episode of what seems like the final season of the series, brought down a bittersweet conclusion to the much-loved story of the Richmond squad.
Season 2 had majorly ended on a grey scale, with most of the characters either taking off or severing their ties with the rest of the team. Jason Sudeikis, who not only helmed the show as the titular character, but also as one of its creators, had claimed early on that with the end of Season 3, they will have had told the story they wanted to tell. However, the official synopsis for the same on Apple TV+ doesn’t mention Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 12 as the “series finale”, but rather as the “season finale”. Could this be a hint at something more to come in the future? Here’s our take on it.

What Was the Truth Bomb Ted Bombarded Upon Rebecca? Did He Leave for America After All?
Ted firmly held on to his decision of going back to America, and so he did. Rebecca attempted to convince him by presenting him with emotional and monetary incentives, but even she knew well enough that he’d already made up his mind. This also brought her to initially thinking about selling the club as she couldn’t register the thought of running the place without Ted.
In the end, Ted seemed to have taken on the job of coaching Henry’s football team, as he’s seen reminding his son of the same advice he gave to Sam in Season 1 – “Be a goldfish”. It’s also expected that things played out on the happy note for him upon reconnecting with his son and ex-wife.
Who Took Over as the New Richmond Manager?
Roy Kent took over the spot after Ted left for America. Beard and Nathan stepped in as his assistants on the job, and they also reinstate the Believe sign back where it belonged on the wall.
Did Rebecca Shut Down the Shutter on AFC Richmond?
No, she didn’t. She sold off 49% of the shares to the club’s fans and kept the light on in the Richmond tower, considering the team’s well earned promotion to the Champions League as well.
What Did Trish’s Premonition About Rebecca’s Life Mean in the End?
After her “leave-cute” moment with Ted at the airport (she bought a first class ticket just to give him a hug and say goodbye), Rebecca ran into the Dutchman she met in Amsterdam, who’s apparently also a pilot. Sharing moments of “Gezelligheid” with him earlier, she found the same sense of warmth again. His name is also revealed to be Matthijs in the end credits. Chancing upon his daughter as well, the series hints a new romantic turn for her, making room for a new family in her life as they’re spotted at Higgins’ barbecue party later on.
What Happened to the Rest of the Richmond Family?
Coach Beard had been holding back his urge to stay back in England with Jane because he didn’t want Ted to feel like he was abandoning him. Ultimately, he made an exit from the airplane in classic Beard style (faking a ruptured appendix), as the show revealed his first name to be Willis, and went on to get married to Jane at Stonehenge.
The published copies of Trent Crimm’s books finally hit the market (with a “brief foreword by Roy Kent), revealing the final title he ended up choosing instead of “The Lasso Way” – “The Richmond Way” (after taking heed of Ted’s note that it was never about him). Sam’s dream of representing Nigeria in the World Cup also came true in the end.

As Keeley and Barbara had earlier come together to rebrand the former PR agency KJPR, they eventually start a joint venture, now called KBPR, funded by Rebecca. Keeley (who’s hopefully left the Roy-Jamie chapter behind) brings on a new project that instantly impresses the boss – AFC Richmond’s Women’s Team (do we smell a spin-off here?), so it’s most definitely not the end of Richmond, rather the start of a new chapter altogether. Plus, of course, even with the Men’s team having won the final match, they secured a spot in the Champions League (despite coming in second after Manchester City).
Dr Sharon Fieldstone made her much-awaited return to the club, this time officiated as the Head of Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being. Roy took another step on to becoming his better self as suggested by Higgins earlier – he reaches out to Dr Fieldstone for support and help with his issues in therapy. Jamie also reconciled with his feather.
The whole montage played out while Ted himself was asleep on the flight way back home, so while it can be speculated that all of these good endings were a part of his dream, they also fit right in as the expected conclusion to everyone’s story which ultimate with a barbecue gala in Higgins’ backyard.
As for Rupert Mannion, he got kicked out of the game scene due to his little stunt during the final match after he shoved down the new West Ham manager – the same guy whom Rebecca had fired in Season 1 as part of her plan to bring down Richmond.
