The Clearing Episode 3 Review: Suffer the Little Children

As we saw in the last two episodes of The Clearing, Freya and Amy are the same people. Amy is the child from the Kindred who grows up to be Freya, who is recovering from PTSD and is quite paranoid, given what she has seen in her childhood. The two timelines that are offered to us can be clearly distinguished as present and past, with the former focusing on Freya and a recent child who has gone missing and, the latter being all about Amy’s time with The Kindred.

In the present timeline of The Clearing Episode 3, Freya’s paranoia is really taking over her. We get a flashback of her being a young mother before we are jolted back into the timeline where she is trying to protect Billy with all her might. But her PTSD is really making sure she is always on her nerves, be it showing the people who have purchased her house around or the white van that is weirdly always around.

Meanwhile, the past timeline is dedicated to a raid and, how it can be avoided. Turns out Sara’s being missing has stirred things up, with the police almost knowing exactly when and where to raid. Amy’s survival with the other kids at The Kindred also faces some troubles because of Sara’s presence. However, Dr. Lathan and Matriah, both try to take care of the situations they can.

The Clearing Episode 3: Final Thoughts

The Clearing Episode 3 gave us some surprising new additions to the storyline. Some of them have been too shocking to be registered and the others are just underwhelming, making this episode a so-so progression to the series that started off rather strongly. The actors are continuing to impress us with their convincing performances but, the script feels a little loose now.

The shakey screenplay could be the disjointed feeling one might get after having a week’s gap between the two episodes, which brings us to the verdict that this just might be the show that would have settled better with a full set release but, we can only hope for it take a better turn with the upcoming episodes.
