The Peripheral Trailer Breakdown

The trailer starts off with Flynne Fisher, who lives in the rural setting of futuristic America, and works multiple odd jobs. She also takes care of her mother and has an innate desire to live in the reality rather than a virtual world. Furthermore, she is also shown hanging out with her friends, one of whom initiates the dark journey into the future.
Flynne’s friend transforms her into a dystopian London, decades from the present. At first, it’s a magnificent game-like world that looks miles better than her current time zone. The first half of the two minutes seven seconds trailer gives us an introduction to an alternate reality and its pros. It also feels like a scenic distraction, a particular one that Flynne(played by Chloë Grace Moretz) embraces comfortably. However, it doesn’t take her long to realize the haunting horrors of the dystopian future, that have the power to wreck her present.

The tone of the trailer shifts drastically when the cons of the dystopian future are revealed. It almost feels like there is a secret society of an alternate reality, that is keen on causing pain to the so-called time travellers.

The protagonist soon regrets her decision to travel 70 years ahead of time, only to lead into an abyss of pain. Ultimately, what happens to Flynn is left as an open ending towards the end of the trailer. With an interpretation of her future and present wrapped as a distressing chaotic recipe.
