The Gorge Ending Explained: What’s the Truth Behind The Gorge? Do Drasa and Levi Reunite?

In Apple TV+’s sci-fi, action thriller film, two highly-skilled agents, Drasa and Levi, find themselves guarding a seemingly desolate gorge in the middle of nowhere. Although they are unsure of what the place brings with it, their loneliness makes them ignore the direction given and they find themselves getting close to one another. However, when creatures from the depths start to make their presence known, they have no other option but to use whatever they have at their disposal to save their lives.

The film has a runtime of 128 minutes.

The Gorge Ending Explained

The film starts with introducing both Levi and Drasa, who, due to their traumatic work, find themselves spent and experiencing a ton of trauma. After years of taking people’s lives, they are both searching for the next mission instead of focusing on themselves. Thus when a mysterious Bartholomew reaches out to Levi to hire him for a job, he takes it up.

The job requires him to guard a watchtower overlooking a huge gorge. He has no contact with the outside world and has to check in once every 30 days. However, one day he finds out that there’s someone on the other side of the gorge, guarding the other tower. He immediately catches on the woman on the other side and is taken by her presence in the midst of his loneliness. Drasa, who is staying on the other side, reaches out to him on her birthday and the two strike up a conversation using their notepads. They find themselves getting closer and closer to one another and thus when Levi spots Drasa crying one day, he makes a daring attempt to see her face-to-face by ignoring the orders in place.

Drasa is immediately taken by his caring nature and after he puts his life at risk to reach him, they spend a wonderful day getting to know each other intimately. The next day, unfortunately, tragedy strikes when he tries to go back but the creatures from beneath make their way up, triggering the explosives lining the gorge and Levi falls down. Drasa goes after him and the two land in an unfamiliar world that looks almost post-apocalyptic. They come across the terrifying creatures on horseback who try to kill them but are successful in saving each other.

Upon looking deeper into the gorge and fighting off enemies, they realise that all the “hollow men” are actually soldiers from the 1940s. When they go inside a missile silo, however, they come across the entire truth — the area was used to create biochemical weapons like the atomic bomb but the experiment backfired when the weapon was released accidentally, causing human DNA to merge with everything around them. It gave birth to these hybrid creatures whom a private contractor is experimenting with to continue the experiment above ground. Levi also learns about the self-destruction protocol that has been put into place to keep the gorge and all the experiments done by Dark Lake under wraps.

Eventually, the two find a way out of the gorge after some more fighting and after expressing his feelings for her, Levi makes his way to the other side. When he checks in the next day, Bartholomew asks him whether he went into the gorge since their systems were turned on and when he says otherwise, he is instructed to kill Drasa. He agrees to keep the peace but Bartholomew realises that he has been compromised. She makes a plan to kill both of them the next day but when they reach the gorge, they realise that both Levi and Drasa are not at their posts. They had already realised that their time there was over and the two eventually shoot down the cloakers, exposing the gorge. As the self-destruction protocol is activated, Bartholomew and her team try to escape while Levi and Drasa run for their lives. However, the former are killed as their helicopter isn’t able to escape the blast radius on time and Levi falls into a waterfall.

Drasa, meanwhile, goes to their pre-planned meeting location in France and finds Levi not there. She reads the poem that he wrote for her and reminisces about their time together. But, while waitressing at a restaurant and living a new life, she is surprised to find Levi waiting for him and the two make up, hoping to live a more peaceful life together.
