Why Did Irina and Bóris Plan to Kill Maíra?

Bóris, an established and dangerous scammer for years, is controlling and gruff and has always undermined his daughters’ happiness for his own gain. Although he’s violent and manipulative, his daughters continue to listen to him because they are afraid of him. To go along with his schemes, Irina, despite her budding feelings for Maíra, decides to kill her and take all of her money after their wedding.

However, Irina’s feelings slowly become more complicated, but before they can make a decision, something terrible happens during the wedding that leaves the family devastated. As Barbara & Nilo and Irina & Maíra get married, the police raid the home, which results in bullets being exchanged. After Barbara and Nilo die, the couple are forced to run away, along with Boris, who survives the encounter.

In the end, though, the situation eats at Irina, who can’t forget her own hand in the tragedy that took her sister and left her daughter arrested. The central tragedy is that, although Irina had started the relationship for monetary gains, she eventually fell for Maíra, but their relationship was built on lies. Although her emotions eventually became sincere, it doesn’t erase the fact that it was ultimately a betrayal.

Why Does Maíra Separate From Irina?

When Maíra finally learns Irina and Boris’s scheme to kill her, it’s a horrifying turn of events for her. She could never have imagined the woman for whom she had left her mother and walked the path of forgery could betray her like this. When they are both arrested and taken in front of a judge to be answerable for their crimes, Maira and Irina tearfully profess their feelings for one another. However, it’s too late, and Irina is eventually sent to prison while Maíra gets out on insanity claims.

In the finale, after knowing everything, Maíra goes back to meet Irina and hash out their feelings, but eventually chooses to stay with her mother, unable to forgive the lies and deception that had started their relationship. The decision highlights the difference between loving someone and maintaining a relationship with them. Although Irina’s feelings for Maíra are genuine, the latter is unable to stay in a relationship with her because of everything that has transpired. It’s a tragic turn of events that becomes the highlight of the series.

What Was Lúcia Hiding From Maíra?

Lúcia and Maíra’s relationship is also left on a complicated note. After Lúcia is shot by Boris, Maíra finally learns the truth behind her mother’s obsessive behaviour – Maíra had a twin sister, and both of them were born prematurely with weak hearts after Lúcia travelled against the doctor’s orders. Maira was able to get a heart transplant that saved her life, but her sister wasn’t so lucky. Thus, Lúcia holds herself responsible and tries to keep Maira safe from all harm. Moreover, she also learns that her father, whom she had put on a pedestal, was involved in some extremely illegal things that her mother has been shielding her from.

These revelations make Maira more sympathetic to her mother’s behaviours and add another layer to the family’s history and relationship. Lucia’s decisions were not just about controlling Maira’s life; they were also shaped by her desire to keep her safe and pay for her role in her other daughter’s death. She’s constantly trying to prove herself and possibly forgot the line between control and protection.

Do Maíra and Lúcia Reconcile in the Finale?

After learning everything, Maira is seen returning home with Lucia and washing her hair for her. Although she looks glum and morose, it’s clear that she’s made her choice. Moreover, Lucia has also sold off all of her paintings, something that started this madness in the first place, highlighting her desire to make amends and start fresh. However, will Maira be able to overcome the years of lies and deceit? That’s something that Maira probably doesn’t know either.

The finale, especially Maira’s character arc, highlights how knowing the truth about someone’s pain can give a clearer perspective but doesn’t automatically erase the years of pain and harm that someone has faced. For Maira and Lucia, especially, rebuilding their relationship will require more than just the truth: it will require them to slowly build trust from scratch. The conclusion, thus, is bittersweet, as she leaves Irina behind for a better relationship with her mother, a choice that she will have to bear the consequences of for years to come.
