The Diplomat Season 2: Netflix’s Political Thriller Series Renewed For Another Instalment

The Diplomat Season 2 has some good news for the viewers as the political thriller series has been officially renewed for another instalment by Netflix. While the viewers were left wondering about the character’s fate with the cliffhanger ending but now they can eagerly wait to know what unfolds next.

Created by Debora Cahn (Homeland), the show premiered on 20th April 2023 and stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell as Hal Wyler, Ali Ahn as Eidra Graham, David Gyasi, Ato Essandoh as Stuart Heyford, Rory Kinnear, Miguel Sandoval, Nana Mensah, Michael McKean and others.

With 8 episodes in total, the show follows the life of Kate Wyler, the newly appointed US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and her journey through the intricate web of international diplomacy. Tasked with stopping war from happening, she must navigate an international crisis in tandem with her dwindling marriage to Hal Wyler, a veteran diplomat.

By the end of the last episode, we saw how Kate and Hal get drifted apart after she learns about his intentions to claim the position of secretary of state. However, they get the biggest shock, after learning the involvement of the British Prime Minister in the entire ordeal with the explosion of the British aircraft carrier.

Nicol Trowbridge deduces his vicious plan to eliminate the last living trail, to hide his involvement in the Naval attack. Moreover, before the situation moves forward, Hal gets involved in a car blast (meant for Kate) along with embassy employees Stuart, and Ronnie which complicates the situation.

What to expect from The Diplomat Season 2?

Going forward into the next season, the viewers can now get the answers to who are the survivors and where Kate’s relationships go from here. While many want Hal to definitely return, it is unclear at the moment to tell what entails for our characters. Currently, a confirmed date is not yet revealed but we can expect the show to return with new developments around the same time, next year.

So far in 2023, the show had one of the best debuts on the streaming platform with 57.48M hours viewed in the first weekend and also appeared in the Top 10 in 86 countries. The good reception might be the reason behind its quick renewal and it’s definitely news to celebrate since the story won’t remain unfinished for long.
