The Clearing Episode 4 Review: The Foundlings

The last episode of The Clearing was a ride to be on, with so many revelations and intense scenes keeping us on the edge. However, it was enough to help us make certain deductions about the upcoming episode which partly come true but, of course, at the cost of a new uncomfortable surprise.

In the past timeline, we have Matriah fleeing the raid and settling somewhere. The Kindred children are left with the police in the hospital and the authorities are trying their best to reunite the lost children with their biological families. Sara, however, is still missing and her case remains a mystery.

We have Joe question Amy about Sara’s whereabouts but, with Anton present in the scene, it isn’t a comfortable conversation. In fact, none of the investigations that the police do in the past timeline is helpful as everyone is as tight-lipped as they can be. From Matriah’s disappearance to Sara’s kidnapping, no one proves helpful in any way and soon the blame slips on a rather strange character.

In the present timeline, we have things getting more intense and scary for Freya. Anton is back in the picture. We saw him drop at Matriah’s doorstep in the last episode and, it turns out he is living with her now. But why?

If you have been following the show religiously and reading into everything that keeps happening in the show, you can guess why already. But, that is not to say that The Clearing Episode 4 does not give us a straightforward answer. Freya gets to the root of it as there is an update about the missing kid- Carrie, in the present timeline. What Freya does not see coming is the risk she puts herself in as she goes down the rabbit hole.

The Clearing Episode 4: Final Thoughts

The Clearing just keeps getting disturbing with every episode. Just when in the last episode we somehow thought things were going to cool down, there is a new sun of something sinister in this latest one. Miranda Otto is completely sweeping us off our feet as is Teresa Palmer in their respective roles. There is a silent cat-and-mouse chase going on and we are standing at a precipice from where we can only fall into darkness.
