The Chosen One: Which Comic Book is the Upcoming Mexican Series Based On? Release Date and More Deets Spilled

The Chosen One is an upcoming Mexican series directed by Everado Gout. The teasers and trailers do not reveal much about the content of the show other than the fact that it is about a child with Jesus-like powers. We can tell that this is a tactic to maintain the mystery and all that it involves.

What would you do if you wake up one day and realize that you have supernatural powers? Would you think that you are a superhero or would you like to be called God? Well, the upcoming series explores the latter wherein a child is considered to be Jesus Christ. But the question in a world like ours is, how would Jesus be treated?

The Chosen One Cast

The cast of the series includes Bobby Luhnow, Lilith Curiel, Juanito Anguamea, Dianna Agron, Tenoch Huerta, Jorge Javier Arballo, Alfonso Dosal and Carlos Bardem.

The Chosen One Plot/Storyline

The series is based on American Jesus, a comic book series created by Mark Millar and Peter Gross, with a twist. While the books’ action is set in the US, the upcoming TV show’s story is situated elsewhere. The story takes place in Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, where 12-year-old Jodie (Bobby Luhnow), after surviving an accident, realises that he has the divine power to turn water into wine and heal a person’s hearing, among other stuff. This leads him and those around him to believe that he is a reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Well, that’s convenient.

The teaser and the trailer (visit the Netflix page of the series) while mostly keeping the story under wraps does give us glimpses at the kind of treatment Jodie receives after the people of Santa Rosalía find out about his powers. He is naturally treated like a God but even this has two sides to it.

As a result, we have guns, bullets and the wrath of God as the different aspects of the plot. Naturally, those who have seen him perform the miracles will believe that he is Jesus. Those who haven’t seen him will find him to be a hoax. Some will even hate him for claiming to be Jesus. As for his friends, they don’t care whether he is Jesus or not. For them, he is Jodie. But for how long?

Jodie’s mother noticed these divine powers in him when he was a baby. So it seems that the accident somehow “activated” the powers that were lying dormant in him for a long time. He saved her from a fire even. In the middle of the teaser above, we see Jodie being shot and blood on his hand which looks like one with a nail in it (resembling Jesus’s hands on the Cross). Is this his test? Or is this someone’s plan to kill him? Be that as it may, what the end of this “divine” journey is for Jodie is what the series is all about.
